Gilbert Moreno - You could check Tapp Plastics for half globes with a variety of sizes. They start to get pricey as they get bigger though. If you prefer metal to plastic and have some tools that’ll polish metal, a trailer hitch from the junkyard would be a bit cheaper.

Thank you so much for this pattern!! I bought the beta version to make my Halloween costume. I went on to purchase the pattern for the original lone you made, it was EXACTLY what I had been looking for in my armor for my character. Imagine my surprise and excitement to see this! I used the pattern with EVA foam and it worked beautifully. I didn’t add all the details of the pattern like I wanted due to time constraints, but it still looked amazing and am so excited to make again for a “finished” set of armor. Beautiful! I appreciate the hard work you put in to creating/making this! ❤️

Might be helpful to figure out ahead of time where you might need to skive, do the skiving, and then do the dye and finish work. Not critical, and it would make planning the build slightly more complicated, but you won't have to worry about touching up the leather after skiving an already dyed and finished piece. This is a great tutorial - the camera angle lets us see a lot and the narration is really helpful. It's probably one of the better leather craft tutorials out there, and I watch a lot of leather craft tutorials. 😁

I have done saddles for movies and costumes for theater, fantasy wear and cosplay so I really have mad respect for your leather tooling skills. That sets a craftsperson far apart from a hobbyist when it comes to all the finer details and features in a costume. I stopped doing shows with my models wearing all my stuff when events were cancelled and it got harder to advertise. Do you sell some of the costumes you create or do you just use them yourself for events? Well, I don't have any experience in working with leather, so maybe this is dumb. But while watching I wondered, couldn't you use the paper rivet(?) thingies you used to hold everything in place during the testfit again, to hold everything in place and see where it needs a little more work/shaping, and then, one by one, replace them with the actual rivets that hold it together permanently? Does this make sense?

Impressive, is this for sca or was your aim more cosplay? It is worthy of sca. I have not worked with leather in years due to disabilities. One tool I think you could make great use of is a curved hide knife, they look like a stingray and make cutting heavy hide much easier. You can also get forming plyers with delrin jaw inserts that do not leave marks behind. I used to have some I used for holsters.

Wow. Blew my mind. I love leather. To me it’s still alive whatever creature donated it. Leather continues to breath and should live a long life if treated correctly. All leather needs feeding at some time or it will give out to Father Time as we mere mortals do !!!! That was Eye Candy. If I was still young I’d have loved something like that but I’m too long in the tooth or should that be gums. Beautiful craftsmanship.

When I started out leathercrafting I started out with some smaller armor pieces like Bracers. They are a GREAT way to practice the foundation skills without having to risk big nice pieces of leather. The bracer pattern Prince made a tutorial for a while back is made of several small sections riveted together which means there is even less need for waste, and if you mess up a piece or two, you haven't ruined the whole project! All in all, it's a really safe way to dive in and start making some awesome stuff!

Excellent as always. one question: when you use a Edge or stitch groover, do you still go back and cut a line with the swivel knife? Seems like this is an alternate way to make your line in the leather. Thanks
@bjornsworkshop92884 жыл бұрын
It is 100% up to you how you choose to do it. You can use wing dividers/edge creasers to simply press in the line, a stitch groover to cut a relatively shallow groove, or a swivel knife to have your line cut at whatever depth you want it to be set at. All three are viable options and will give similar results. You can follow each of those three lines with a beveler and/or other border stamps if you want. As far as a direct answer to your question: Generally speaking, you would either use a stitch groover OR a swivel knife more frequently than you would use both.

@bjornsworkshop92885 жыл бұрын
Hours of work into a project is a really hard thing to determine because it is significantly affected by so many factors. Experience is probably the biggest factor because you will learn to streamline certain aspects of your crafting process as you get further along your journey. What might take Prince 20 hours may take someone else two or three times that. That said, I would say that a weekend dedicated to this project (with a little willingness to work long days) should get you through the project without too much trouble.
