While Diethard is definitely an extremely competent and resourceful intelligence officer and basically ran the Black Knights intelligence and public relations operations by himself. He is also a vulture at heart and would ditch his current sponsor in a heartbeat if there is a chance of a greater story.

Indeed, some analysis of it and his previous use of this trick point out at about the mid point of the conversation he shifts topics, derailing the thread of discussion and resetting it. Because while he can predict the responses it's only up to a certain point, so he controls the topic and keeps his responses vague enough but in line with his target so as to hold their attention. In both cases his target having one key quality that lets this trick work....ego, both Schneizel and Mao had the ego and were driven to argue to prove themselves right which was the bait to the trap of getting them to argue with a recording.
@sylessyl

Am I the only one to consider that in these situations (Mao and Schneizel) that Lelouch's recordings only play when the other speaker has finished with their reply. Cause I've seen comments about Lelouch timing the responses and THAT is pretty ridiculous, but Lelouch programming his recording to only play after Mao/Schneizel have responded makes perfect sense to me.
@chaztikov
@chaztikov 9 жыл бұрын
+Damien Loxely I think his conversation with Scheizel was intentionally vague. Its sole purpose was to present general points building up to a statement that he knew would seem contradictory to Schneizel. Regarding his timing, you have to consider Lelouch's prior experience with Schneizel. He was accustomed to the speed of Schneizel's moves, as well as defeat at the hands of his older sibling. To apply this to the present conversation, you only need to assume that the two have also had philosophical discussions in the past with the purpose of justifying their positions. Hence, Lelouch's experience--a deep understanding of Schneizel's stagnant philosophy that has been reinforced by being a member of the Royal Family for his entire life--coupled with Schneizel's willingness to call a draw, even at the cost of his own life, together assure Lelouch's feint will succeed. The former permits Lelouch to have foreknowledge of the course of the conversation, and the latter ensures Schneizel's false conviction that the game is over.
@damienloxely4140
@damienloxely4140 8 жыл бұрын
I understand that it was deliberately vague (in order to give Lelouch time to get to him). But he could not determine the exact length of Schneizel (and Mao's) responses. Hence he programmed his recordings to only play after the former had finished talking.
@nevanmasterson46
@nevanmasterson46 6 жыл бұрын
If you look at the recording made for Mao, he does cut mao off once and he is also left not replying for a good 5 seconds or so. I think the conversation with Lelouch and Schneizel is more perfectly timed either because lelouch has prior experience, or because he programmed it do so as aforementioned.

Honestly im glad Lelouch won. Lelouch stood for change and progress, Schneizel stood for stagnation and order. Order without change leads to complacency, I might disagree with Lelouch's reasons for why he decided to rebel and what was sacrificed on the way to complete it successfully, but I think he really was a symbol needed to fight against people like Schneizel and the King.

+Chris W Well he kinda deserved it... he spent the entire anime flopping between sides, so he'd be at the "most interesting" one, basically. He reveled in war, loving chaos for the sake of chaos, cherishing death as long as it created a story for him to spin into one of his little productions. I mean that's also the reason Lelouch despises him, especially by the end.

Of all the characters, Diethard was the one who surprised me the most. During the first four episodes, he seemed like a moral character who didn't like how Britannia did things. Later on, he only wanted to see the kind of world he Zero would make. He then showed fanatic loyalty to Zero, but after his identity was exposed, he turned on Zero and sided with Schnizel.

Actually, Schneizel was willing to die, but only because he had a nihilistic view of life and human existence as a pointless struggle. He was a pawn to his own will whereas Lelouch was a king willing to march across the battlefield with his own units. So in other words, they were both willing to die but for very different reasons.
@eleosparakhaous
@eleosparakhaous 10 жыл бұрын
tiakpark Schneizel does everything he does for the sake of his pride, so that he might be worth more than anyone else; he would rather die than lose (although, of course, he would let everyone else die in his stead if he had nothing to lose from it; he would even abandon Nunnally). He values himself most, and seeks to solve the world's problems the way they're contained now: through the fear of the law (much like Light from Death Note, which is made all the more evident by the fact that people began to commit crimes against each other again when they no longer had any punishment to fear). He would choose to give people what they want without honestly giving a damn about their well-being, or whether or not the people he would govern even care about each other. Lelouch, on the other hand, wants a world in which people would choose be kind to each other *because they desire what's best for them.* And, in order to accomplish that, he has to be the villain.

@Kashlikaro I think the intention was more literal though and was only meant to extend to whoever the current Zero was since Diethard's view of Zero was only his opinion of what he was. Besides Scheinzel will probably die of old age before Suzaku does.

the things that lead to frequent editors' notes in animes and mangas. That is, of course, bonus to those who speak Japanese but it can and does change the experience of the series. Then there are tropes. common plot or character or story elements, not necessarily cliches but elements that are common, which differ greatly between Japan and US, or the west. One of the big reasons why that is relevant is because of voice of acting for different characters, which is typically one of the biggest

I found that i prefer whatever voice i hear first be it English or Japanese. I saw Code Geass in English first so i thought that was best. But i saw Gundam 00 in Japanese first so i preferred the sub in there. Then there are some anime that i seem to enjoy in both languages such as Fairy Tail. But then I realized that i actually prefer the voice that looks like it fit's the character in my mind no matter the language so if the character sounds like I imagine, i like it. So I think you are right!

The betrayal irks me in just so many ways, because there are dozens of things they do wrong and we never see anything done about it. If anything, Xingke's later attitude suggests an "oh, so that's how it is, then we're cool" reaction.I would have at least expected Xingke, who is not as attached to Japan as they are, to blow a damn gasket for their completely inappropriate decision to make a deal with the enemy without consulting him or the Supreme Council Chairwoman first.

oddly enough I kind of agree with sneizel he makes good points about how in futurespect its always down hill over and over when people are givin too much power individually. Its an odd realization that no matter the individualistic emotion the inevitability of this reality is such.The rationale exceedes the ideal it seems. Hmm.

+darealliljable Schneizal wanted to play it safe. He knows that the future is unpredictable, as he recognizes that there is great potential for humanity to unify under their own terms, it is equally possible that humanity would destroy itself instead. He looks at history and the human condition as examples to the path he believes humanity would ultimately take without his guiding hand. What Lelouch calls him out on was that Schneizal based all his opinions and beliefs in his lofty title of "Prince" and never experienced death and struggle as a regular person. Most likely, this has given Schneizal a sort of detached "God" complex because his views, which is not logically wrong, by the way, turned him into a sort of sociopath. Lelouch, on the other hand, was willing to take risks, far more then Schneizal. This is reflected on his strategies and tactics he's employed throughout his 'career,' although they were calculated to take the best possible result. Ultimately, Lelouch has placed his bet on humanity's instinct to seek happiness and their empathy. He knows, just as well, that humanity may one day go back to a perpetual cycle of hate and war, but he also recognizes that it may be humanity's best bet to attaining true peace and prosperity for all under their own terms, as a society and as a species. So, in retrospect: Charles and Marianne wanted the *past*, the 'glory' days where everyone was happy and by unifying humanity to a single entity, thus achieving 'true' equality. Lelouch calls bullshit, saying it's what *they* wanted, not humanity as a whole. This, at least according to Lelouch, would forever bind humanity in a true stagnant state, even more so then Schneizal's ideal world. They kinda act like SEELE in Neon Genesis Evangelion. Schneizal took the safe route and chose to place his luck on the *present*, although not perfect, was stable enough for him to anticipate and manipulate in a stagnant state. He would rule as a sort of 'God' by keeping the status quo, forever putting a metaphorical gun to humanity's head in case anyone wanted to threaten said status quo. Just keep in mind that Schneizal did this not for a lust of selfish power, but as ultimate arrogance, thinking only he can achieve results to bring peace. Lelouch placed his bet on the most unstable route, the *future*, where humanity would either destroy itself or elevate itself to new, unseen prosperity. Hoping humanity's shared noble values such as courage, empathy and pursuit of happiness to guide them to a better, more hopeful, future. It's also ironic, in a way, that Lelouch's path is the closest thing to 'Social Darwinism' that the previous Emperor, Charles, has always touted his policies around.
