The problem with a lot of travel credit cards is that they penalize you while travelling, which kind of defeats the purpose 😡 BUT there are a few (like this one: bit.ly/4bcRzJ9) that reward you for experiencing new cultures 👇👇
-
📣 Canada’s 4 Best TRAVEL Credit Cards with No Foreign Transaction Fees
Compared to our American cousins, Canadians suffer at the hands of high (and usually unnecessary) foreign transaction fees, which is crazy when you think about it because the whole point of Miles & Points is to elevate your travels and experience new cultures.
But don’t worry because there are a few no foreign fee credit cards that our fellow Canadians can take advantage of - that’s what we cover in this video where you’ll learn about:
1️⃣ The Best Credit Cards For Travel: that actually reward you when spending money abroad.
2️⃣ Travel Credit Cards To Suit Every Type of Traveller: from those who only travel once or twice per year to our fellow travel enthusiasts who practically live in airport lounges.
3️⃣ Leveraging Your Business Expenses: and how to take advantage of no foreign transaction fees when spending money in the USA, Europe, or further afield.
Our hope at Prince of Travel is that no foreign transaction fees will become more “normal” in the future, but for now you can leverage the few no foreign transaction fee credit cards in the marketplace here 👇👇

The WealthSimple Mastercard debit has no FX fee, no annual fee, no cash advance fee, and give 1% cash back even out of the country. Pretty strong card for travelling

I agree. this is the best card to use when traveling then just use something else in Canada.

@@the_lowlight it annoyingly lacks insurance benefits though so Hotel/Airline/Car rental purchases wouldn't be great. plus having to have the funds already in the account and not geting a statement and paying a delayed payback period.

This where the loss of the HSBC Mastercard really sucks. Talk to RBC to get their act together and offer a card that was as good as HSBC

I’m sure there are some costs to a bank converting your purchases. And besides, not say “poor bankers are underpaid” or anything. But the issuers need to make money somehow. Especially to pay for all the value churners get

I use my Amex Cobalt in the U.S. for groceries and restaurants. Yes I pay the 2.5% exchange but also get the 5X on points. Convert to Aeroplan and I'm still way ahead.

I’d like a video covering how to apply for business credit cards for those who are small business owners. Even if the business isn’t necessarily making profits yet. Can the annual fee of business credit cards or even personal cards be included in tax filing?

While all this sounds good, travellers need to be reminded that when making purchase abroad, if the credit card terminal asks if they want to pay in local currency or in Canadian Dollars (CAD), ALWAYS choose local currency! If you choose "CAD or Canadian Dollars", it is likely that the merchant is participating in Dynamic Currency Conversion or DCC which allows the local credit card processor/bank to apply a rather high mark up on the exchange rate and split it with the merchant for slightly lower merchant fees. Perhaps Ricky should do a supplemental video on DCC?

good thing you didn't mention brim mastercards. i applied last february and in the middle of my japan trip, they announced that they would remove the no foreign transaction fee good thing i was able to utilize it even to my seattle flight. the card is just sitting there doing nothing... well, not nothing. i put a $1 patreon to someone per month to keep it alive for credit utilization

HSBC was really the last best travel card in Canada. The only thing that comes close to that is the Scotiabank Passport VISA.

Is it normal for a travel points program to not allow its use outside of the home country? Scene+ points cannot be redeemed while abroad. To sign into your Scene+ account, it requires multifactor authentication through text or call to the phone number on file. I spoke with an agent for Scene+ through online chat, they confirmed that redemption of points is not possible when travelling abroad because of text or call verification to sign in. So if you are going on an extended trip or you are changing your itinerary during the trip, you cannot make use of the Scene Expedia portal while in another country. You would just have to pay for whatever hotel/flight/car rental and use your Scene points after you return to Canada to offset your payment.

Or you could have a phone number with a company that sends text even while you are abroad. Most major telecom companies can do this, only those smaller ones can't. Just go with the big 3 - Rogers, Bell and Telus and you will be fine.

Hi Ricky, I already have the Scotiabank Momentum Visa card for Chexy rents and I just applied for the Scotiabank Visa Infinite for travels but Scotiabank policies say I cannot get welcome bonuses for Scotiabank Visa Infinite as I already have a Scotiabank credit card. What's the workaround for this?

Unfortunately, it is listed in their Terms & Conditions. There is no workaround here. You may try your luck after a year or 2 again.
