In my humble opinion, it is the authoritative recording of this piece.

Sublime interpretation : cela me fait pleurer.

Mto. Perlemuter not only knew Ravel -he studied his whole works with him!

so beautifully articulated, clean, nuanced, unmannered - very refreshing. I wish he would exploit the pedal more for color, and I'm saying that as one who always resists holding down the damper pedal to hide sloppy playing. However I prefer his erring in the direction of less pedal for the sake of clarity. Overall a beautiful, refined rendition.
the ending of the toccata goes of the rails, but most pianists have this issue

Now, he plays like even I can understand this somehow. Some pianists seem to do it so that I cannot have a clear perception of why it is like it is, Perlemuter played so that I have at least some picture (or logic). Anyhow, there exists at least one painist that does this even better but I cannot find her (actually afterwards think it was Cecile Ousset). Sure, I do not understand music, just listening.

One of the ways, anyway...

Perlemuter studied directly with Ravel so I assume that this is the way Ravel heard it, but just because a composer wanted their music to be played a certain way, doesn't mean everyone has an obligation to play it that way, many purists will disagree with me, but that's okay. Have you heard of Pascal Roge, he plays Ravel beautifully, probably my favorite along with Perlemuter. And I love the way Martha Argarich plays the second movement of the piano concerto in G Major.

The Toccata sounds a little to light-hearted in the beginning in my opinion. Greatly executed nontheless

I first thought the same but now I understand it makes it like abstract and I think it s a right idea. Slightly detached but very profound and colourful. I bet Stravinsky was interested....
