Princes' Islands Buyukada - ISTANBUL, Turkey

Büyükada is the largest of the Princes' Islands 9 islands. It's also the most popular. We took a day trip out to the island while in Istanbul and explored it by walking and cycling all around.
⭐ BUYUKADA ISLAND TRAVEL TIPS ⭐
▸ There are numerous bike rental shops on the island. We recommend checking your brakes before zipping off with your bike as it is a hilly island. Peter's brakes squeaked a fair bit on our downhill rides but at least they worked!
▸ If you're required to put a deposit for your bike rental, have the store note down what you deposited on their ledger so it doesn't conveniently get forgotten when you return your bike.
▸ Aya Yorgi Church is a pilgrimage point in Turkey and there are 2 religious days in the year to avoid massive crowds which is April 23rd and September 24th.
▸ There are multiple ferry rides to and from Buyukada, be sure to check the ferry times beforehand so you don't miss the boat back.

The mezes are our favorite during the hotter months. We like small plates with seafood options, veggies, or sauces. Oh and Hamsi tava, I go crazy with those. You guys are brave getting those cute bikes in a super hilly town hahaha The views are indeed astonishing! Have you guys tried Gozleme yet? You have to try it in Fethiye since you are in the area. Wow! The largest? Wow! It looks majestic indeed. What a gem! Greg and Jumi's video was awesome too! I do bite my ice cream too, Lieles says I am crazy hahaha, so I guess we all are. 🤣🤣

Hahahaha I'll be honest.. sometimes i have no idea what I'm saying in our vlogs and my brain functions like it's on low battery especially when I'm tired and i was exhausted that day after all the cycling🔋😂😂 also.. it's quite different to the delicious creamy flavoursome ice cream we get in NZ, it's way more subtle and a different texture.. maybe i should've said that 🤔🤣🤣 Peter got the same flavour as me and we both thought mmm... Nz does ice cream way better 😂 he took a risk even having one coz he reacts poorly to ice cream unfortunately even though he loves it! Always gets random bad acne on his body after eating it so he decided he had to cut it out of his diet but he thought he'd experiment with the Turkish ice cream 😅 he gets that too with fried chicken and certain steaks (not all beef but most steaks) it's so random! Thanks Hans! The next vlogs are finally our non-istanbul ones 😁🙌 hope you're well and looking forward to your next video too 🙂🙏

Forgot to mention Peter… that’s two meals involving some type of mackerel now which I thought was interesting since a good number of people don’t like mackerel because it’s considered fishy. Is mackerel pretty common in NZ or just a fish you enjoy…or just trying different things in 🇹🇷? I really like mackerel in many forms.. didn’t as a kid because I use to go fishing for it, but in my later years I really like it. Looking forward to the out of Istanbul vids coming up!

I love mackerel its one of my favourite fish. I generally get it in every country we go to because everyone prepares it a lil different but my absolute favorite are the ones in Shanghai.... so dang good it's crazy. (No bias cause it's my home town just facts 😂😂) this Turkish horse mackerel is actually pretty similar so quite tasty. Yeah... after I cut out my daily ice cream I've had to move into chocolate 🍫 biscuits etc it's really quite sad so many good flavors missing.

Oh my gosh an island getaway! This is too cool! Love the musical start to this one! Long boat ride and yes, Peter and food! Yeah it's crazy converting their currency to New Zealand dollars, wouldn't even register at times! Yeah weather must be hot and glad you stopped for a drinks break! Well walking up the hill definitely a good workout! Yeah that was a unique part there and the hills there; was intrigued by the stall up the hill heck they'd have to walk up too each day, unless there's homes there where they live! I don't think I bite into ice creams, have to take a note next time in summer here! Another cool job on this!

You can use your Istanbul Card for all public transport in Istanbul including the ferries 👍🙂 We boarded from Kabataş, there's a couple that run throughout the day and you just gotta make sure you don't miss the last ferry back.

We try our best to get the audio levels right since our natural speaking volumes are very different 😂 it can be pretty tricky when we're shooting in different places especially outdoors and we noticed we didn't do the best job on this vlog unfortunately when we watched it back on KZbin 😅 we'll keep trying our best to get the balance right though!
