Wow! I trained with Alison Oliver and frequently hacked out Princess Anne’s horses. Columbus was a powerful boy! Was shocked to see myself in this video (girl with the pigtails) riding Collingwood in the background. Collingwood was I believe a half brother to Columbus. Memories! And, Doublet was the best…a great horse.

Columbus was quite young there. He went over to Mark Phillips in the end. Poor Doublet had to be put down; seeing him always makes me sad; she must’ve been heartbroken.

Yes. Columbus had just recently come in for training. He arrived as a biter, though mostly gave that up with more handling. He was a very powerful and big horse. I remember hacking him out one day and dropping my stick. Getting back on him was quite interesting! (Had to drop the left stirrup leather many holes and jam his head into the hedgerow to quickly leap back into saddle!).
