Philip corresponded with Diana trying to help her think about what she was doing to the monarchy and William's future. Philip encouraged her to be loyal to the monarchy. Philip stopped speaking to Diana after her 1995 BBC Panorama interview. Diana's BBC Panorama interview was intended to undermine Charles and destroy his reputation. The interview prompted the queen to request the divorce. Basically, Diana was fired from her position in the royal family for being disloyal to the monarchy.

I think she was angry because Diana attacked the Royal Family and also said things only from her point of view knowing that the royals tend to avoid giving interviews where they criticise other royals or even express strong opinions, so they were not going to "fight back". Margaret supported Diana but she also supported her sister, and Diana's interview also attacked other royals like Margaret herself, princes Anna and prince Philip, since she did not clarify who are the people that are "against" her. I would also feel betrayed by that if I was supporting her. I also find it ironic that Diana bashed the royals while having two royal sons, and obviously was making their life harder. Both her and Charles seemed to forget that, and put their personal life and interest above anyone else.

Good parents protect their children from scandalous information, Diana was the source of the embarrassing and scandalous information. Diana lacked good judgment. ~~~~• Diana's BBC interview prompted the queen to request the divorce. Diana was fired (divorced) from her position in the royal hierarchical organization for disrespecting and being disloyal to the monarchy. People saying it’s double standards from Margaret don’t understand. No matter how good or dysfunctional our families are, most of us are protective of our families. The RF is an institution too and everyone wants to know what happens in their personal lives badly. William himself said he felt his mother had gone too far with that interview, HOWEVER it was a godsend that she did something so wild and not at all normalized at the time, because not too long after this Diana dies. She only lived until 1997. Had she been less outspoken in her lifetime we would know a LOT LESS about her as an individual. That interview is one of the reasons that the public knows just how bad her position became and just how far the royal marriage had broken down. Now we have a King married to a divorced woman. I find it very amusing, as this was not permitted by Parliament for the Duke of York but was fine by the time Charles became King. Hell, even the sister of the monarch couldn't marry a divorced man without losing her title, her money, etc etc. Ppl always say that Margaret was free to marry Peter Townsend and just "didnt want to give up her lifestyle", like, they were going to take her title away, all of her money and she would likely give up any share of her inheritance of her family's vast properties, jewellery collections, etc etc. They would practically write her out of Royal history, basically. So no, that's not "go off and God Bless". I expect this is why Margaret was so angry with Diana at the end. Not only did Diana get what she wanted in relation to divorce, but she also had no problem tattling on the two faced nature of the royal family. Margaret was part of that, no matter how much she may have regretted so during her lifetime.

Margaret was jealous of Diana's beauty. For the most part, Charles was the total issue in that marriage. I can't imagine her stress and pain. Your home should be a place of peace and contentment. She didn't even have that. She was surrounded by poisonous people. From the queen to the servants. She was tired of the whole ordeal.

The one thing Diana didn’t consider when she did that interview is how it would effect her boys. Next day the Queen wrote a personal letter to Diana saying they needed to file for divorce, signed Elizabeth R, and Diana was like this is the first personal letter she’s ever sent me 😅 haha. Diana meant well but she could be very naive and easily influenced, that interviewer (hate that guy) manipulated the heck out of her. It was so unfair.

And, this is why HRH Catherine knew better than to give up her own family. Of a fact, Princess Diana was just in a bad spot because Charles, HLMQEII, the Queen Mother were all arrogant enough to expect Princess Diana to turn a blind eye to Charles' infidelity to Camilla.

I guess IF princess Margaret had banned anyone from bringing any magazines or anything with Princess Diana's picture into the house...that she wouldn't have read a single magazine or newspaper for years on end then! LOL it is now 2023 and I recently saw a magazine with a picture article of Princess Diana in it.

Princess Diana said in the BBC interview that Charles might not be able to be a good King. That was the huge issue!
