Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip first laid eyes on each other at a family wedding when the queen was only a child, and when they next saw each other in their teenage years, it was reportedly love at first sight. The two were married at Westminster Abbey in 1947, thus beginning the longest-running royal marriage in the history of the British monarchy.
So why did they live in separate houses?
Late in his life, Prince Philip moved into a cottage at Sandringham, where he spent his last years reading, painting, and cooking. Meanwhile, the queen stayed at Buckingham Palace. What caused this royal split? Here's the real reason Prince Philip didn't live with the queen.

I think he was a very good man, all the scandalous , nasty speculation about his character were destroyed when people saw the funeral and simplicity he requested. He was born on Mouse Island at Corfu , and though a Prince, he liked a simple life and was inwardly quite shy and humble. Prince Philip could have had a brilliant Naval career but chose a woman , the woman he loved, who happened to be Elizabeth at the time ! They were very devoted to each other .

He would've been a penniless former royal of dubious vintage if he hadn't had the spectacular good fortune if catching the princess' eye. He got a life of ease and luxury. @cinnow
@cinnow 2 жыл бұрын
@@abhishekmukherjee4857 old war hero may not be an accurate description. He quit the navy quite early, upon his marriage. Calling the Chinese chinky, making racial references to Africans, constantly aware of, and reminding former colonies, of their "glorious" past, these were some of Philip's foot in mouth racist remarks. A nobody, he could never come to terms with his wife's preeminence. A harsh father to Charles. A man who got more than he deserved. I’m from a former British colony and now 74 years old. As a child in the first grade it was traditional to have photos of Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Buckingham palace adorn the walls of our Anglican school. To this day I think he was one of the handsomest men I ever saw. And as a six-year old child I remember admiring photographs of him and the Queen. I can see why the young Elizabeth (her majesty) fell in love with him. I also admire Her Majesty very much.

Don’t forget prince Phillip was also born a Royal his Father was Prince Phillip of Greece. His Mother Alice was the great Granddaughter of Queen Victoria. He had had a rather broken life and had probably had enough of the idea of being a royal especially as his family had been treated so badly after the monarchy of Greece was overthrown when he was a baby. It's amazes me to see these British peoples longevity in life! The Queen is between 93 or 94 years old! And she is as sharp as a tack! Sure, she has slowed down a bit. She is involved in the daily operations within her home. She goes through a lot of mail, answers many of these letters. She doesn't even limp when she is walking. Most Americans, male & Female are having their Knees, Hips, Shoulders, etc. replaced daily! It seems all American Bodies wear out quicker vs. British People's body's. Simply "unreal" in my books! However, I am glad for them.

@@LiPo5000 The Queen just celebrated her 95th birthday. She is not just busy within her home. She has duties comparable to a state president. She represents the country. I don't know how she does it. For me, the very thought of knowing that just about every day I'd need to be on my best performance whether I feel like it or not gives me stress. The Queen just keeps going. I can't recall her calling in sick. One big difference between Americans and the Royals is nutrition - American food habits are atrocious and the food found in supermarkets is not nutritious. He had hip surgery before Harry’s and Meghan’s wedding. The frequent urinary infections in his last years including hospital stays must have been a nuisance. Why do people with media access have a right to interpret the lives of people this way, most of the time making things up or coming to some "scandalous" conclusion in order to get viewers/readers? I don't understand why these "journalists" aren't taken to court or slander laws enforced. Wouldn't that end this unpleasantness? Prince William brought all that to an end for himself and his wife with a few lawsuits. If enough scandal mongering goes on, destroying the reputation of public figures who never did what the "press" accuses them of -- that can become dangerous. All it takes is one crackpot with a rifle coming after a public figure to give them what they imagine they deserve.

Whether or not Prince Philip was faithful to Elizabeth II, his life of service should remind everyone of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia, have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U.S.A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered various civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a stable constitutional monarchy that is above politics, which helps keep the peace. Prince Philip could be tactless, and he had his failings as a father. Whatever mistakes he and his family have made, let us be grateful for the service he gave, and the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in everybody's lives.

At 55 I've had to move into the spare bed. I'm sick of waking up cold with "ALL" the blankets gone & draped over my wife & the floor on her side but the kicker "pun intended" was the constant kicking of my ghoolies in the middle of the night. It's wonderful having a entire queen size bed to yourself with no one stealing the blankets but the best by far is no more being kicked or kneed in the nut's. Not a pleasurable way to be woken up. Once or twice but then learning not to do it anymore was the goal over the past 10 years but to constantly keep doing it is cruel, nasty.

There was a PBS special that was a real life series and it was about the daily living ECT in the palace and queen Elizabeth and Philip were having a conversation about a broken elevator in the palace , and she was talking about an African president and how inconvenient it would be blah blah blah and he laughed and said well he can get exercised using the stairs 😂😂😂😂, and she gave him the look

Buckingham Palace is the administrative centre for the Royals, they do not live there. They consider Windsor their home.
