I think the phrase "bicycle monarchies" for the Scandinavian & Low Countries monarchies was coined by someone in the British royal family eons ago as a pejorative description after WWII reflecting their modernization away from golden carriages. Young British royals often sound constipated by tradition nowadays and the ones from southern Europe all want to design and make fig leaves (aka fashion) because posing in and around expensive things and calling it "cutting edge" graphic art is their thing. But one cannot expect teens to sound all that sophisticated until they've done more living and gotten more education.

All royal families are more relaxed than in the past, however the Monarch is the Head of State and represents the country at home and abroad. They can’t just mouth off like this young socialite. She may have royal connections and know many members of royal families but she is not part of a ruling house and so has more freedom of behaviour.

Well, Princess Maria Chiara certainly has excellent pedigree to be Prince Christian's spouse, but she belongs to a very prominent Catholic family, while Prince Christian is a Lutheran. Both religions are very similar, so they are not far apart canonically, but I wonder if that would be a problem politically should they indeed have a tendresse. BTW, I'd suggest to Princess Maria Chiara to be very discrete from now on if she does want to pursue that avenue.

Royal princesses were traditionally poorly educated , and were expected to wait around for some man (usually a distant fellow Royal even if the Royal blood line was running very thin) to come along.This young lady seems to be unwilling tp ""wait to be picked up "" and has cast her cap in Prince Christian's direction , when he still has another year at school , before he goes to Australia for a year , and then to University , followed by 6 months military service . The Danish Royal family are a very clever intellectual fsmily , and I am sure that Prince Frederik's parents would be anxious at him being hunted down in this way .

You cannot compare a royal Bourbon family with a noble family like the Grimaldis. I often notice that Americans have a problem to understand the difference. The latter are not at all of royal descent, and the present head of this mini-state is a sovereign prince, who is a serene highness, not a royal highness. Monaco is not a monarchy either, but a principality.

By the way, a principality is a term for any small monarchy that is ruled by a monarch of a lesser rank than a king, such as Monaco, and also Liechtenstein and Luxembourg, both ruled by Grand Dukes. Lady Louise may assume her HRH now that she is 18, as it is now actually up to her. Her parents chose to rear Lady Louise and the young Earl James free from the constraints of their Princely titles, however, ultimately it will be their decisions to make. Frankly I think it is unlikely they will do so, except their parents are moving in the direction of being major supports of the King, and will no doubt be great mentors to the Prince and Princess of Wales. Edward and Sophie have done an exemplary job with their children, in my opinion!
