To be honest, I think Lighting Bliss said it best. The problem with this episode was the basic setup of it. I get that Twilight needed her rest, and that Spike was placed in charge of making sure nothing bothered her, but the part that confuses me is why did all these people that needed twilight's help were not directed to speak to one of the other princesses? If the other princesses knew she needed rest, then shouldn't one of them be placed in charge of handling things while Twilight is gone? Not spike who is often referred to a baby dragon. Granted, you could argue that both Luna and Celestia were busy off screen, but what's Candance's excuse? She has time to periodically check up on spike, and give him silent passive aggressive guilt trips, yet she has no time to handle a situation between delegates that spike should not be handling himself? that makes no sense, but i do agree with everything else you said.

Nice video, good to see you back to making videos! In terms of the video, your opinions were well placed, and I'm sure most would agree that the attendees were a little bit overboard, especially considering it's supposed to be an international summit and taken in a professional direction. I think added on to the fact that Neal Dusedau (who's writing has actually gotten better since he's worked on Johnny Test), Spike's characterization has a very "Johnny Test" feel to it, specifically the young protagonist makes selfish decisions, though instead of squeezing out a solution before anyone finds out in JT, Spike is wrongfully given flack from the selfish delegates and Twilight for a mistake he made in an attempt to help. This episode also came after Slice of Life, though I assume someone else has already pointed that out. Being that the prior episode was praised to high heaven (or alternatively hated), people were disappointed and ultimately had a more negative view (or their annoyance from the previous episode may have been carried over, I was neutral about this whole thing...). Anywho, just my opinion, though I suppose that's what us reviewers do. We express our opinions.

Yeah I had no issue with Spike except at the beginning when he took his 'don't interrupt Twilight' too seriously but that was a nickpick compared to the performances of the crowd. Anyway, great collab you two and congrats on the new job Brett!

Interesting perspective. I HATED this episode because of how much abuse spike gets by the contrived plot. As Goldenfox stated, Spike did what he had to and barely abused his powers at all given how few people would listen to him. Also, small critique of the video itself. Caps Lock's part of the discussion could have been given a bit more time to be fleshed out, as with the amount of times Golden Fox rants shifts Caps to more of a glorified cameo. Good work none the less!

I don't think they were angry that Twilight was sleeping... They were probably angry because Spike lied to them all... well, most of them... the ones he helped on Twilight's behalf. He tricked them all into thinking Twilight was the one who made those decisions. That definitely warrants a response of anger, not toward Twilight, but toward Spike.

I do hope Goldy enjoyed the Gauntlet of Fire like I did. Seriously, it's easily a contender for one of the best Season 6 episodes out there! (The only problem, though, is how to rank them since some episodes this season really do blend together a lot more than others here. Like, none of them are completely awful (save for probably Flutter Brutter), but the real good, if not great episodes really are few and far between this time around by comparison. Almost as if it were a Meh quality season here...

Some tips from someone that has worked night shifts for 8 years. 1. Buy earplugs (Why didn't Twi use earplugs?!), 2. Get a blindfold and good drapes. 3. Buy a humidifier that is silent and can keep the room humidity at around 45% when you sleep. 4. Save a ton of money, you don't want to be economically bound to a night shift job.

It's still the worst episode of season 5 for me, though, for something people might think is a silly reason. Ahem... my issues is they they had Spike face. First off Cadance doesn't try a sound proof spell which we know is possible. Two you have a busted water main. The first step in repairing and or replacing parts is to TURN OFF THE WATER! And who plants dragon sneeze trees in a place that a dragon lived in at most 5 years ago and still regularly visits. the problem isn't spike. it's the episode plot. and as you said where were the otehr princesses. Celestia is likely doing court but Luna and Cadance are free. They could sure spare a few hours filling in.

I liked Cadance being more aggressive but I would have liked to have her be more active. That she shows off her leadership abilities. I don't get why people hammer on Spike here. He was fine, he wasn't presented completely in a positive way but characters don't have to be completely positive.

Finally got to the end of the video, and yeah: Fuck those delegate ponies! They are jerks. But there is another issue which I haven't seen people talk about. The trees needed to be trimmed and the water main needed to be repaired. Fine, postpone them so that Twilight could get a nap, but both of them came back to ask permission to resume work and Spike said no again. At that point, it was a mistake. Sorry, Twilight, but we gotta make some noise for the sake of the conference. Besides, I'm pretty sure she could've slept through that noise.

Yeah, I think the episode is better now when I did a rewatching on it. I guess it wasn't as bad as I originally thought it was, but now I can see some of the pros in it. The issue I had with this episode was more about the failures of Princess Cadence, Princess Celestia, and Princess Luna to actually step in on Princess Twilight's behalf instead of leaving everything on Spike's shoulders. I mean, whose event is this? Cadence served as an effective moral signpost for Spike when he was getting out of control, and she stepped up to stop the water, but where was she when Spike was getting over run by delegates?

Because of that, I can't call the episode bad, although it comes close. The only 2 bad episodes that I had with Season 5 were What About Discord (Very predictable, boring, and bad ending) and Tanks For The Memories (Horrible execution of the grieving process, death metaphor, and a really unlikeable RD)

My biggest problem was that the conflict seemed so contrived. It didn't feel natural that all those delegates would have been ready to knock down Twilight's door over every little problem, and it was even worse how the trees and water main caused so much havoc. The episode did have a decent set-up. I think it could have worked if they had gone for more of a slapstick episode with Spike desperately trying to prevent any noise and a series of comedic noisy situations.

Yes I used "Points of Authority". It's been one of my favorite tracks from them because of the family matters I've had with my family, and I figured, based on the idiocy with the attendees and delegates. As for my thoughts on the band, I liked them in my High School years because of the aggressive atmosphere they provided along with that nice mix of rock and hip hop which was classified as "Nu Metal". I appreciate their newer material, such songs like "The Final Masquerade" where they changed their style drastically, but they can also be a hit and miss sometimes. What really pisses me off is when someone uses "Crawling" as an emo reference for the obligatory chorus lyrics that are taken out of context.

It wasn't his fault yet he was blamed? He acted on that one tall order and if no pony would listen to him then how he is suppose to act? That is what I have a problem here. No one listens to him because he isn't a princess and none of the princess are standing up for him so yeah I can see him being struck down. As I stated in the first impressions video comment section, my issue stands with Cadance, who is just as in the wrong as Spike. She gives way too much responsibility to spike, doesn't check to see if there is anything that would wake twilight up, doesn't delegate Twilights responsibilities to another pony, doesn't post guards at the stairs (who could have turned the delegates away), and above all else, she doesn't think to cast a silence bubble on twilight. The worst thing? All that stuff I mentioned was NEVER brought up and almost all the blame was put on Spike.

Episode would've been just fine for me if Spike had some sort of out he chose not to take or was punished for his greed instead of just trying to do his job. Did he overestimate the importance of his job and make some bad calls? Yeah but considering the situation who wouldn't have? And did he get greedy with using Twilight's power? Yes but that ultimately contributed nothing towards things going downhill.

As i see it its impossible for such coincidence to happen... if a ball hits a tree snapping the trunk and hitting the other trees and act like a domino then screw physics... As for the pipe it should have leaked to begin with and such precision to a window is kinda coincidental but nonetheless it shouldnt have happened. Princess twillight is sleeping and what? I thought this episode was okay too Golden also while I agree with what you said about the towns ponies I couldn't help but compare them to other background characters from another cartoon that has decreased in quality since after the 1st film was released yep Spongebob I remember way too many episodes (even the old ones) where spongebob or the rest of the krusty krab staff couldn't cook or work for who knows why and the background fish would almost always start riots just because they couldn't get their damn burgers there's other restaurants besides the krusty krab and since one of the writers for MLP used to work on spongebob (Mary weather Williams) that doesn't surprise me also congrats on the new job sure you'll have to work at night but you'll probably get good income and like twilight you need time to rest too

The name "Willey" is supposed to be pronounced "Will-E". But it's a common thing for me for people to get my last name wrong. Just think of it as "William" minus the "uhm". With that said, FINALLY! Someone who agrees that this episode is NOT as bad as everyone says. As you said, the dragonsneeze trees were there for plot convenience and nothing more. And I won't deny that allot of the ponies in this episode are written as idiots. But most people won't take into consideration is the fact that Spike is a BABY dragon. If anything, he was being very responsible considering his age. I think that the fandom, and even the show writers themselves tend to forget that Spike is just a child. And in turn, too much is expected from him.

They don't know that Twilight hadn't slept in 3 days, all they know is she gave an to order to let the the event flood because she need her beauty sleep. Same for me, man! Granted I still think it's the worst episode of the show, but that _really_ is more due to the entertainment aspect of the episode. Specifically with how downright not only annoyed, but also even pissed off I was with aspects like how the delegates behaved and how the Dragon Sneeze Trees just *had to* exist even though it literally could have been anything else that might have reasonably caused allergies to someone like Spike in the first place! Not to mention that stupid fucking ending joke that downright ruined whatever saving grace it had going for it moving forward. Still, I can certainly see where GoldenFox is coming from here; primarily in the fact that I don't hate Spike episodes (or at least, not the majority of them, although three of them are unfortunately in my worst episodes list).
