Personally, I really liked the scene where the Remane 5 stated Twilight should go back to Ponyville & all the following scenes about, though I agree it is a bit rushed. To me if Equestria Girls (no matter what, it's canon) deals with how Twilght comes to terms with her coronation, sure she'll freak out about it once in a while but the film shows she have accepted the status & responsibilities that it entails. While Princess Twilight Sparkle deals with how the rest of the Mane 6 come to terms with Twilight's new princess stature, it teaches a lesson that new things should not have changed the fact they are all friends that already went through a lot together & come out even closer. It's kinda like when your best workplace friend suddenly gets promoted to your Manager, at first of course you will treat them differently & unsure of the new group dynamics, but if your friendship is strong enough it will survive this & in the end you will realize underneath they're still the same person.

Great Review man! I kinda disagree about the show needing to explain the potion or the tree of harmony. Zecora makes potions better than any pony in equestria it’s logical to assume she could make the one she gave Twi. As for the tree saying ware that came from would only raise more questions, so it might be easier to say it always existed. Keep up the good work I’m looking forward more season 4 reviews ^-^

6:50- personally i want there to eventually be an episode centered around the guards, so far they haven't really done much, they all have the same face and voices, and we only know 2 of them by name. So i think an episode of the guards going on some adventure or going into battle, or even just their daily routines would make for an interesting story idea. But for now i digress.

It's been a long time since I brought this up, and I don't think I've ever done so outside my tumblr, but do you think it's possible Discord could be genderfluid in like the most literal of senses? As in, given his powers, he has to literally choose what he presents as, because his true form is amorphis and generdless or something? We've seen his shapeshifting abilities at play numerous times. He even has the ability to survive splitting his own skull in two without his brain falling out. Surely, the ability to change gender completely and on a whim is within his power set?

The flashbacks are showing the history of the elements of harmony, building up their importance as a means of defense of Equestria and reinforcing how difficult of a decision it will be to give them up later. It would be a great scene even if it WERE pointless in the context of the episode, but it's made even better by the fact that it DOES help serve a purpose. 13:00 Introducing Golden Fox, element of fire!

Well I did name my OC Goldblaze Phoenix after all, so it does match. To answer your question about the animation, yes I did animate but not completely by myself. I extracted the wing movements from Grant Beaudette, which is why I placed him in the credits, and I set up various poses per frame by different vectors I was using so that to trace my OC over it. Working on this opening took me over a month, which is what I should've started in advance... sorry about that.

I felt the mane six giving up the elements showed how much they didn't need the elements to be friends. They were willing to give up what had so long been their supposed source of friendship all to save what Twilight can view as her mother. They recognized Twilight's desperation and felt they should give up the elements to help her. Also looking at the next few episodes so far, i believe that as they work to unlock the box, and go on their adventures they will see how strong their friendship is without the elements.

Where the potion came from is what I don't know. However, I think I have an idea where the Tree of Harmony came from. It goes back to "Hearth's Warming Eve". After realizing the magic of friendship, Twilight (I forgot her character's name in the play) shoots a beam into the sky, which landed in the Everfree Forest. Since the forest is alive, it's possible the beam hit a tree, which had a mind of its own, and sensed the conflict that emerged and the danger that could rise to the surface, and thus, it became the Tree of Harmony. It had six jewels that would be given to ponies who best represent the Elements of Harmony, being Celestia and Luna at first, and then Twilight and her friends. Tell me what you think.

4:02- I dissagre. before I saw this premiere I had come across an animatic by Warpout called Lullaby for a princess, it portrayed events between the royal sisters right before nightmare moon's banishment. and while unfinished one could easily imagine the final product for this project to where I had high expectations for the past battle between Luna and Celestia. what I saw was...lacking. sure I could let slide the fact that they didn't go at it very hard, and yeah the scene with Celestia getting smashed through a wall was alright. but it felt so cheesy. it was obviously the past and not actual happenings since a) Twilight drank a potion right before this happened and b) we know for a fact Nightmare moon wasn't back since the sun and moon were both out at the same time. if that sort of thing had happened the last time, I'm sure we would've been told something by now, or someone would've made cannon about it. all in all, the fight was lacking compared to the expectations offered by an unfinished animation. and I cant stress that enough. not to mention Celestia's mane. what's up with that thing? we all know it was aurora pink before she banished her sister. heck Luna's mane didn't even have stars back then let alone flow that way. but do the animators seem to care about little details like that? NO! according to them the royal sisters always had flowing manes with stars and a rainbow, accept for the first episode when Luna was temporarily powerless. (I found I could live with that one) .......so yeah, I was disappointed. totally. speaking of, did anyone else think Nightmare moon vs. Celestia could've been better?

The problem with doing a Celestia episode is that it would be hard to make interesting without giving away information that is best left to speculation. We would end up needing to learn the limits of what she does and does not know concerning Twighlight and her destiny (which is more than just becoming a princess since her cuttie mark is so central to the tree of harmony)

It was sad that they had to give up the elements of harmony, but you got to see what giving them up symbolizes. The elements were in the first three seasons because they were vital to the creation of the friendship between the main 6, but now that Twilight's a princess, giving up the elements symbolizes change, that the friendship between the main 6 is changing, that it is them that has held their friendship together. that they have to understand and accept the change to allow their friendship to flourish, just like how the 5 had to accept that Twilight is now a princess, but she will always be the friend they know and love. In my opinion, this is a perfect example of looking to the past for wisdom, so that we can look to the future with courage.

Uh... anyone besides me think that if Discord's Plunder Vines had succeeded when they were supposed to, they would have sealed the Tree and Elements o Harmony (and thus Celestia and Luna) as a threat against Discord? If the Tree was any less powerful, the Mane6 would have been living in a completely different, Chaotic Equestria! It was brilliant of the sound team to use the Dalek (sp?) death beam sound effect for the magic blasts on this episode, which aired the same day as the 'Doctor Who' 50th Anniversary. It was also brilliant of them to reveal that pretty much all the damage to the Castle of the Pony Sisters that we saw previously and later was caused by Nightmare Moon's attacks. From where I stand post-finale, the magic beam sound effect got reset for Twilight's battle against Tirek, but then she was using power we'd never seen before, nor since. It could be that Alicorns that have had their power for a while just have more powerful magic blasts that sound like death beams. That would track with my theory that the resonance between Unicorn and Pegasus magic within an Alicorn gives them more potent magic than that of a Unicorn (or Pegasus, because we now know they all have some magic).

Pretty much this shows a good season to come. I don't think it will never top season 2 as there are some who does have good points that the opener is a mess and the two episode after are nothing special which I can see where they come from but I want to see how it holds on its own and so far it has a great start as only one episode so far is a two face to me.
