And you wont stripe the lawn and you ensure every square inch get of the lawn gets proper coverage. My lawn has never looked better. I’ve used Turf weed & feed in my yard for the past years with great results. The trick I’ve done is I do this early in match and during and will apply it dry or wet in my established yard. Usually I do before I know rain is coming and do at least twice and sometimes heavy and that will carry my yard for the rest of the year and my grass is super thick (high) and weed free
@JB.Olsen7 Жыл бұрын
I’ve used it a couple seasons here in the south and always works well. I don’t wet the lawn, I do it before the sun comes up in heavy dew. Thanks!

I typically use a liquid herbicide early in the season but then supplement the first fertilizing with a Weed and Feed before switching to just a fertilizer for the rest of the season. Live in a very windy area and as long as my neighbors take care of their lawn, once they've all got their herbicide going we don't see much for weeks beyond the occasional clover.

I use BOTH. A Scott 3 n 1 and the Ortho spray. The Ortho goes down first. Now with the lawn wet, i drop the Scotts 3 n 1. It now sticks to the weed leaves as they are damp. These works great and between the two, clears up stubborn weeds like Creeping Charlie in no time as well as feeding my lawn. Indeed since starting this approach my lawn is nearly weed free and is so thick it essentially just crowds out everything else.

Thanks for the video. I’m the opposite when it comes to fertilizer. I specifically buy Lesco fertilizer because of the larger granules. The granules are heavier which means they get thrown further distance by the spreader. That’s important if you have a Scotts spreader. Most people will tell you they hate their Scotts spreader because it doesn’t properly distribute the fertilizer. That does not happen when you use Lesco granules in a Scotts spreader.

@@longislanddriver6336as a lawn guy in order for you to 100% have a perfect lawn at all times. Your pockets have to reflect that. It’s just not worth it for me to spend 4hrs at your house everytime. Expect to pay $1000+ a month for a residential sized lawn. Also as a homeowner you have to make sure your watering correctly, not letting dogs pee on it, any birds that may bring seeds or seeds that get blown in. Weeds are you to happen it’s how well you can prevent them and how fast you can get rid of them that matters. These companies are servicing hundreds of yards just like yours. If you think they are going to spend extra time on yours you’re wrong. Your best bet is learning to apply the applications yourself. And finding maybe a family member that does lawns on the side and will go that extra mile because they aren’t relying on it to pay the bills. Point is people think they can pay $150 and have new grass. In lots of cases it requires skid steer work, going over it 5 times with different equipment, being licensed to apply chemicals. Big TMK I have some areas of the property that I'm trying to get the grass to continue to come in, expand from the rest of the yard and I'll use it as areas to let the horse graze. I am not going to break the bank or really spend a significant amount of money and would rather let it grow in naturally. What I've done was pull up as much weeds as I can and feel like lol and use an old school slang blade to sling small trees/shrubs and loppers to cut the one's that are a little thicker, I cut those down close to the ground. I think that once the grass starts taking over then it'll choke out those roots of the small trees and I'll continue to sling them down anyway. From what you just said though what do you think would be the best combo to use or thing to do and again I'm not trying to beautify my actual yard/lawn but just get the grass to come up evenly for the most part or decent then it'll be fine. Trying to give it a little boost I guess. I also think I need to give it attention in the fall as well as the spring to help it out but for now this late in the game what might be best to do, and spring fall recommendations?

HUGE TIP: PLEASE state...upfront.... the region of the Country each product should be used in. The Lawns in Upstate New York are far different than those in central Florida. Here in FL most homes with larger lawns are typically planted with St. Augustine grass....which my NY relatives call (and consider) Crabgrass and generally, a weed despite how green and lush. Weed and feed was banned in my part of the world (western Canada). I don’t miss the smell nor the dust, but it was convenient.
@PrincessCutLawnCare Жыл бұрын
IMO it should be banned everywhere, not because it doesnt work but more because of the dust.

My preferred method is to spray Pasture Pro. It's supposedly safe even if there are animals grazing on the area when sprayed. It works pretty well. Maybe not the best but it does work and it's fairly benign to wildlife.

Great to hear! i dont like the hose end sprayers for herbicides, i find its hard to dial them in enough to get even coverage. herbicides require precise applications and the hose ends just cant do that properly.

Another major benefit to the non-W&F STB is the uniform granules. Fertilizers have multiple ingredients, and nearly all of the lower quality fertilizers just build the ratios of the ingredients by a mix of granules from each. Urea or ammonium, iron, phosphates, potassium, etc., each in individual granules of different sizes and weights, all thrown into the bag at "proper" ratios. This can cause some of the granules to setting in the applicator during application, meaning some areas of the lawn get more of one ingredient than they should, without enough of others. Scotts uses a uniform granule. ALL of their ingredients are chemically bonded at proper ratios, *then* ground into uniform single granules. You can visibly see this in the examples he shows at 4:43. Look closely and you'll see the different ingredient granules in the Lesco bag, while the Scotts bag is uniformly the same single granules, each of which has a proper ratio of the different ingredients to feed your lawn.

Here in southern California, I always recommend Scotts Ultra Feed for lawns because it contains slow release fertilizer and has a high nitrogen content (40-0-5). It lasts about 6 months. The native soil here contains plenty of potassium and one only needs to apply phosphorous once because it cannot be flushed out of the soil so the fact that the PK is low in this fertilizer is of no consequence. Scotts Turf Builder (32-0-4) contains less nitrogen and it is not slow release so it must be re applied more often.
@PrincessCutLawnCare Жыл бұрын
never tried the ultra feed, gonna check it out btw the turf builder is half slow release and half fast release

@@PrincessCutLawnCare Half? This product also contains 4 percent soluble potash, 7 percent sulfur and 2 percent iron. Nine percent of the product's contents contains slow-release nitrogen from methylendiurea, dimethylenetriurea and water-insoluble nitrogen.

Yes the bulk liquids are better than the RTS bottles because you can control the application rates more accurately. In the RTS bottles, there’s no way to tell how much product came out and whether the amount went on the requisite surface area.

George, this is only the second videoof yours I've watched. I really liked the way you presented the details, the why's and why not - and your rational for making decisions. Bottom line - I learned a lot after thinking I already had a good knowledge b bae (since I'm 72). The one area I would have liked to have heard - is seasonal frequency. What you described in this video was geared for spring. How about the other 3 seasons? Maybe you already have another video that speaks to that. Also, I'd love to hear of your approach on thatching, rewarding, aeration and your suggestion for types and brand of seed to choose. BTW - I live on Long Island ... My questions on seasonal approach. Great video! I loved it! Rick

Used weed and feed on my lawn. It was supposed to be for all types of lawns. I liked that because I had multiple grass types in my lawn. Well, it did a great job of feeding my weeds and killing the grass. I can't afford to resod my lawn, so now I have just weeds. Have tried to seed the lawn but none seem to grow. I'm going to have to go back and look at some of George's other videos and see if they can help me.

Whoa! I just told my parent's about the wasteful spending on lawn care products especially the double action, triple action and quadruple action products! I use a variety of products that I learned through trial and error: my list of products may not be the best list for my neighbor's lawn. I live in Florida and my front yard requires different care than my backyard. I also learned that the instructions and ratios for a product is for optimum laboratory conditions. I learned that using 5-oz of a concentrate is effective instead of the 3-oz of a concentrate mixed with one gallon of water.
@PrincessCutLawnCare Жыл бұрын
interesting you mentioned you like adding more concentrate as the commercial grade herbicides contain a higher percentage of the same exact herbicides found in the store ie the commercial grade stuff is pretty much what your doing
@PappyNet01 Жыл бұрын
@@PrincessCutLawnCare Huh? For example, I have used the Spectracide with Atrazine Hose Attachment - the hose attachment is a 50-to-50 odds of working correctly for me. I always re-read the instructions and then I pondered the caveat that "if you have a thick lawn then increase the dosage": I increased the dosage to test my lawn and I was seeing better results. Now, I unscrew the handle and measure 5-oz and mix in 1-gallon of H2O + a little more H2O past the gallon line.
@PappyNet01 Жыл бұрын
@@PrincessCutLawnCare oh, your saying that the herbicides purchased at the Home Depot, Lowes, Menard's and the old Hechinger's are for residential lawns and what I am doing by increasing the dosage is what is done at the golf course ie the commercial grade - right? I previously thought about purchasing the industrial grade products, but the price markup is exponential compared to the product in the retail store! I visited the local supply shops where the "Professional Irrigation and Landscapers" purchase their supplies because unlike a Handyman they don't go into the big box retail stores. Those landscaping supply shops are too expensive with very few exceptions.
