Still does. The UN building anyway. That said still get misty-eyed hearing God Save The Queen/King and The Star Spangled Banner and Scotland The Brave, the two countries I could ever call home. UK/Scotland, country of my birth, father's birth and paternal grandfather's birth. USA country we adopted. For my father and grandfather, another song they honor: The USAF anthem. Both of them were/are USAF veterans. I tried, too many health issues. Couldn't get past MEPS.

I see at the end the color guard dipped the UK colors to all three anthems, that's surprising to me. I would have assumed only the British monarch rated that honor. Is it normal British custom to dip the colors to friendly nations like that? Edit: I see from other comments that is the Royal Marines' color, not the Union Jack. So, it's a unit/service color rather than a national (I realize that's not quite the right description for the UK) color. Guess that explains it.
@Brecconable2 жыл бұрын
Yes, whenever the order for present arms is given, and a colour guard is on parade, both the colours (national or Queen's Colour and Corps/Regimental colour) are dipped.
@user-ir7os6wh1w2 жыл бұрын
@@Brecconable Sorry that's wrong. Only in presence of the queen or royal family (royal salute instead of general salute) and for remembrance purposes. Otherwise the colours are *never* lowered.

@josephelliott26132 жыл бұрын
Yeah so basically in the Army and Navy they have a Queens Colour and a Regimental Colour. The Union Flag is the Queen's Colour and is the same all regiments that have one bar their battle honours. The Regimental Colour is unique to that regiment and can be yellow or blue or red or green or whatever colour that regiments facings are, again with battle honours inscribed onto them. The Colour will only be dipped that way on the order of Royal Salute, Present Arms. If there isn't royal family member etc then the order will simply be General Salute, Present Arms. Also each battalion will have its own colour. This is usually the regimental colour with something to distinguish it from the other battalions. I don't really understand US Colours, but I assume those streamers attached to the top are also battle honours?

@@fmervick1 There are two military forces in the world simply called "the Royal Marines," one British, the other Dutch. They are the oldest and second oldest marine corpses in the world, the British one being founded in 1600 and the Dutch one in 1601. Both were formed as a result of the four bitter wars fought by the British and Dutch in the 17th and early 18th centuries. These wars ultimatelty ended in a draw, numerically speaking, with the Dutch winning two and the English winning two, with legendary Dutch Admiral Michiel de Ruyter being regarded by many historians as the greatest admiral in world history. He spent decades fighting in the Mediterranean, Caribbean, the Atlantic and western and northern European waters, and never lost a battle! He also led the Dutch attack on the British fleet at Chatham, the last time an enemy force ever set foot on British soil. In British custom flags or colours are "trailled" (ie laid on the ground) in salute to royalty, or the fallen. It represents the subordination of all national and local symbols to the crown, and, ultimately, to God. In this case HRH the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, who was taking the salute as Captain General, Royal Marines. Incidentally, the officer carrying the colour is termed the ensign in the British forces, that being traditionally the job of the most junior officer in the regiment, who would usually be an ensign in rank (now superceded by 2nd Lt).
@shirtless69342 жыл бұрын
