Amp's sounding cool! It gets growly without completely woofing out. I've never done a Princeton build mydelf, but the BF and SF amps are some of my favorite smal club amps to gig. Cool video, thanks for making it. PS: love the NFB cut mod. I love the wildness it imparts to the sound.

Awesome work - very impressive. I've built some tube amps from kits - you did this from complete scratch - really cool!

From scratch is better since kits don't usually save you a lot of money

Great video! Love your content. I would really like to see a walkthrough of how to bias a cathode biased and fixed biased amp using Rob's methods.

It would be great if the next time you set up the camera so that you and the amplifier you are testing can be seen, so we can see exactly what settings you are changing. Also, when you discuss the modifications you have made, it would be great when, for example, you say that a switch gives a specific effect it would be nice if you showed it on a specific example. I just watched the whole playlist of building this amplifier and I want to thank you because you inspired me to build my own tube amplifier. I plan to do a reverb, tremolo, and fuzz in my version, but for now, I'm in the schematic phase. Thanks again for the inspiration. Greetings from Poland. J.

Nice job. Not much more satisfying than firing one up after all the hours you put in. Was up last night making my next parts list.

The amp sounds great! I also put a midrange control on my Princeton builds. I have not done the negative feedback switch in the past but will in the future. As far as your opening question, (amp like a child) my answer is no. I understand what you mean and feel that exhilaration every time I build an amp. It is the thrill of craftsmanship, not fatherhood. A perfectly built amp will never be more than a well-crafted tool for musical expression. No comparison.

I'd like for you to go over the phase inverter,Cathode follower?? and how to make it better. Also what you would do to convert it to say deluxe power.

If I made an amp, that sounds like this, I would also compare it to new born baby ❤️❤️❤️

Lol I can't disagree!

you should replace that NFB switch and run a 1.5k resistor in series with a 5k pot for variable feedback- assuming of course you have an available spot for such a pot (the switches hole is big enough)
@KleyDeJong3 жыл бұрын
I do really like that implementation. One thing I like about the switch is that it makes the 'stock' PR sound instantly accessible. I'd fret that I wouldn't dial the pot in just right to the stock value of NFB.
@CharlesWillisBonsai Жыл бұрын
Why 1.5k and not 820 ohm like the ab763 blackface circuits?
@sempercompellis11 ай бұрын
check your PRINCETON schematic my friend; 2200 ohm NFB resistor. My suggestion would be variable both under and over that value..@@CharlesWillisBonsai

Sounded great! - would also love to hear tele, p-90 and humbucker tones....also, if I missed it what’s the speaker?

I built a Princeton reverb and I find the amp is cleaner than I thought it would be. I'm not getting as much dirt when the volume is dimed and I'm wondering what the best method might be to lower the headroom? I've biased the output tubes at 60%. I'm thinking I can lower the B+ to the preamp section by increasing the value of the resistors between the filter caps or by increasing the value of the plate load 100k's to a higher value. Do you have a preference? The Tweed Champ and Deluxe that I built have PLENTY so it's not a huge issue. The Princeton works very well as a pedal platform but getting a slightly earlier breakup would be nice. Thanks in advance!
@KleyDeJong2 жыл бұрын
Hi John. A NFB switch and a midrange ground bypass switch are two great easy ways to bump gain while also having the stock circuit available. Changing B+ stepdown resistors will also have that effect.

After watching this and other series of builds you have done, I’m blowed away at you and your abilities! What about faceplates? Do you do them or have them done? I’m building a 1 channel Princeton Reverb amp with a mid control, master vol., switchable NFB and a long tail PI. I’m shooting for 20-25 watts. I’ll build my own chassis and cab, but I want a unique faceplate and I would like to make my own professional looking one. Any suggestions? Love the channel! Love from NW Colorado. Thanxz

I have not gotten into custom faceplate, though I believe it is possible. Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

This is the only Princeton i have ear that i like Overdriven, sounds just like a Tweed, what speaker Did You use? Thanks
@KleyDeJong3 жыл бұрын
Jensen P12R is the speaker. That's why the midrange control and NFB switch are so great, it really brings the mids forward for a better overdriven tone!
@joeltunnah7 ай бұрын
I don’t understand the point of the “current limiter”. If I’ve wired the power supply correctly, the amp’s fuse will blow before a problem can take out the transformers or tubes.
@KleyDeJong7 ай бұрын
It's a safety set in case you wired something incorrectly. Also fuses are not fool proof.
