I get more information online from medical doctors; than I ever did by "chatting" for 2 minutes with my Primary Care Doc. The current medical system is obsolete when it comes to nutrition and metabolism. I always end up educating my poorly informed doctor about current studies.

Right! I hate those (obviously legally and ethically necessary) disclaimers on the internet saying “talk to your doctor about this!” I can rarely get doctors to engage in conversation with me let alone give me more than a shrug or a generic response when I have questions about supplements and nutrition. They won’t even answer my questions about potential biomechanics causing my pain. Plus it’s hard to see some doctors regularly, so you really have to make your own choices in your care rather than wait 3 months to ask a question about a supplement or conservative treatment method.

@nancythane41042 ай бұрын
He put me on statins because Diabetics are considered heart patients and it will "eventually happen." If that were true, wouldn't they give us a cane and guide dog when we're diagnosed as diabetic, since that will inevitably occur as well? Yes, I'm being snippy. However, to automatically assume the worst and prescribe a detrimental drug to "nip a problem in the bud", regardless of the fact that it has frequent negative effects on mental acuity and promotes brain fog, is nuts~~at best.

I want to thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’ve been battling/ researching idiopathic PN in my toes for little over a year and a half now and this is the best information I’ve seen to date…. I’ve been trying the 600 mg of ALA for the last 6 months and I think it is has slowly reduced the severity of the burning sensation… its hard to say for sure because my symptoms only present if I’m active or I simply let my feet get to warm which means replicating the environmental conditions is difficult to control for… however taking a warm shower isn’t as bad as it once was…plus they seem to recover more quickly now.. but then again I’m now taking 75mg of Lyrica daily which has made a huge improvement in reducing the peak pain levels. I’m going to look into those supplements and boost my fish intake as well. If you ever have the time, I love to see a video explaining the connection between PN and hyperthyroidism…I see it often listed as a cause but I don’t understand the connection and most of the doctors I’ve spoken to seem to think there’s a connection in my situation…

I take R-ALA and Benfotiamine, along with B-12/B-6 and the other supplements mentioned in the video. I've also gone keto and started taking Berberine to get my insulin and blood glucose levels down. The neuropathy has definitely improved! I think each one of these things (plus a few other supplements I'm taking) are all working together to help my overall health because I feel much better, I actually have the energy to exercise, and have lost about 20 pounds. BTW, if you're not familiar with Berberine, I encourage you to research it, because it has many health benefits, and hyperinsulinemia over many years is why many people end up with NP in the first place. So it can help address what may be the root problem, at least for some people. I also saw one person in the comments mentioned they've seen noticeable results adding Lion's Mane, which I've actually recently been reading about, so I think I will try adding it to the mix!

I am using 600mg per day to begin. I am in the middle of evaluating all the supps I take. Seems like so many...but have a reason for each one! Could be taking way more, but need to watch budget!! They all sound so necessary and helpful. Trying to adopt a plant diet with green/red smoothies. Very difficult to cut sugar and flour!! Do well a few days then have a cookie attack. And noodle mixes!! So easy to drop into boiling water and eat a parmesan sauce noodle lunch!! At 71, I am tired of my body falling apart and pulling a new nasty trick every day!! My Mom is 20 years older than me! If I am hanging around that long, I want to be in better shape than I'm in right now!! I'll be looking at your other videos! My medicare doc does not inspire anything good for me. Doc shopping takes too much time and energy. Need one only to get prolia rx twice a year. and if medicare doesn't cover it, she doesn't do it--tests, etc. I watch a lot of summits with functional med docs and read books by off the beaten track docs and experts. So do a lot of eye-rolling with 'advice' this doc spouts. I've come into being a rebel late in life!

I take the R-ALA version (Immunovites brand off Amazon) But .... I cannot take more than 300mg at a time without feeling sick. After watching this video I plan to take 300mg twice a day. I take the other items mentioned in this video, along with Benfotiamine, as someone else mentioned here. When I added in Lions Mane about a month ago, the pain in my feet went from about a 7 to a 4. (DoubleWood brand) I had felt like the ball of my left foot had a marble under it when I walked. I no longer feel that. I went to the VA hospital in St Pete, FL this morning to see the Neurologist about my peripheral neuropathy. He prescribed Topamax, which has been around for many years. He is starting me on a very low dose to see if that is all I need. He appreciates all the natural supplements route, and he is going to look into Lions Mane for himself and his other patients. Lions Mane has growth hormones, and can heal nerves.

Hope you are feeling better. About the ALA (R Type), are you taking it on an empty stomach? I’ve read it should be taken 3 hours before / after eating. I’m taking mine at bedtime.
@toddmayer68597 ай бұрын
@@craigmichelson8552 great question. I actually get serious heartburn if I take ALA or the better version, R-ALA on an empty stomach. I can take 600mg as long as I take it immediately after eating a meal. I had been taking just 300mg at a time due to the heartburn issue. Funny thing about taking a lot of supplements for a given issue like peripheral neuropathy .... when you feel a lot better, you can't say which supplement actually helped! All I can say is that I was taking R-ALA for several weeks, and had not noticed a significant change. My feet still hurt. Then I added DoubleWood brand of Lions Mane, and within about two weeks the pain was about 50% less, and about two weeks beyond that, I could actually walk fast again through the store and elsewhere. Today it is something like 80 to 90% better than it was about two months ago. I have also been doing some exercises that are supposed to help. Basically you are seated on a chair, and then lift just your toes for about a count to 10 or 20. You then lift you heel, keeping toes on floor, and again, for a count from 10 to 20. The other exercise is with legs extended, and with heels on floor, point toes away from you in a stretch. You can stretch out fingers / arms at the same time. Again a count of 10 to 20. Then point toes towards you, same count ... and can make hands into a fist. I've been doing those exercises along with all the supplements. So maybe it all works together

You keep saying talk to my doctor before taking supplements. My doctor said don't take any supplements.Said to eat a bowl of Total cereal with milk! He said they spray vitamins on the cereal! That’s medical school training at its finest!

Thank you. I suffer with impingement neuropathy in my feet and lower legs. It's very difficult to find information on surgery for this condition. Why? Isn't this basically the same as carpal tunnel syndrome?

Let's be real. Even if you pay your doctor a visit to ask him about all these supplements he's not going to know any more than anyone else whether or not you should take them that's ridiculous

Speaking to your Dr about supplements is all well and good, but talking with an experienced PHARMACIST is necessary as well. Too many Drs only get a week or so of schooling on drugs & interactions. Pharmacists work with it DAILY.

R Lipoic Acid is what you want, not Alpha Lipoic Acid. Regular ALA does not give the results you want. Make sure it says R Lipoic Acid and also stabilized.

Is eating walnuts just the same as taking an ALA supplement and giving the same health benefits? I've read that walnuts contain around 1.8 to 2.5 grams (1800 mg - 2500 mg) per 30 gram serving.

Alpha-lipoic acid is not the same as alpha linolenic acid, which is an omega-3 fatty acid that may help heart health. There is confusion between alpha-lipoic acid and alpa linolenic acid because both are sometimes abbreviated ALA.

I have been taking Nordic naturals omega 3 supplement and indeed was taking too high of a dose- as it lead to -now I know A-Fib! I started taking 2 of the 5 you have listed here- due to a head- on type auto accident that fractured 3/4 of 1 vertebrae and rupturing above and below adjacent vertebrae 😢 until this time frame I was muscular and quite fit. Unfamiliar with pain in general- I finally gave in and took the the nerve medication that was prescribed. These medications only added another aspect to my already debilitated condition- please be warned -The Nerve pain medications cause excessive drowsiness /dizziness even confusion at low -dosages! Note: As I only took 1/2 of the prescribed dose) however- and over the years; during extreme flare ups -the nerve medications are helpful -very short term * The supplements My husband and I have both benefitted from are: 1.A high quality Complex B Vitamin supplement 2. *Nordic naturals -Omega3 3.Cucumin -Turmeric supplement as DOC suggested here 4. Keep moving* exercise AND OR PHYSICAL THERAPY is VITAL and may be a new way of life. My favorite and most beneficial 5. Soaking Weekly in high quality Magnesium salts foot or bath. Immediate results* When taken consistently* I assure you you will begin to feel some genuine-relief. God Bless

I was affected by peripheral neuropathy just after I completed my folfox treatment two years ago. I was taking ALA while undergoing chemo. Not sure if continued with it after that. I have been taking high doses of B1, B6 and B12 since with little to no improvement. I guess I should take a fresh look at ALA.

There are two kinds of ALA the "R" kind is better,natural & more expensive. I believe the synthetic the "S" form😊 and sometimes they're combined. I hope I didn't misspeak. I noticed my brother had some, and it didn't differentiate? Thank you😊
