This is a welcomed surprise, and at a perfect time. “Spare the pleasantries” hits so hard when you have fake ass people around you.

This song reminds me of “People I Don’t Like” by Upsahl. But “People I Don’t Like” is more like hating the fake people, and hating to be forced into it, but playing by their rules only to make it out alive. A muttering anger. Not putting up with it, but being stuck in a situation where you have to put on a face for it. But this song is just flat out, shout-it-out-loud anger. Not putting up with it, and also calling them out to their faces and ditching them. Both are good in their own right.

You know Prince, this has always been one of my favorites. It's got hundreds upon hundreds of listens on my iPod. Watching it come to life in a proper story though? My interpretation of the song was vastly different from the intention, and I *love* that. I saw this as Rarity's triumph over Canterlot, but the animatic shows a Rarity being broken by it, eventually leaving it behind to embrace the comfortable life with her friends; a life that makes her happy, instead of an uncomfortable lie. It's wonderful to see two sides of a song, knowing that with just a twist of perspective, there can be two different meanings. It's things like this that make me love music as an art even more, and make me wish my talents lied in music rather than writing.
