Luna’s last words to Celestia really sell it for me. She likened Celestia to the beautiful sky on the clearest day. Everyone can see that. But they don’t realize also how cold and far away the sky truly is. Celestia was so distant to her own sister. She wasn’t aware how under valued she felt. If she did, this never would have happened. Yet, Luna blames herself saying the fault is her own and to sleep well tonight. Don’t let her actions crush her. Don’t worry over it. She doesn’t blame her. They’ll see each other “soon.” Luna still tries to comfort her sister to the bitter end. No wonder that was the most replayed part.

Even if Celestia saw glimpses of what was happening with Luna, I don't think she'd know what to do. For example, I isolated myself from my family growing up and I was a loner for a long time. That combined with how I was raised makes it difficult for me to show affection to my siblings even if they need to be comforted. (I'm the oldest so I can definitely see Celestia's POV but I still feel for Luna since I relate to her as well)

I wish the show could have had more time to really dive into that night rather then it being regulated to a very minor scene in a much broader story arc so it could jabe really been developed and not felt rushed like it was no big deal.

I’ve thought about this from time to time, and I suppose it depends entirely on what the experience of being trapped in the moon was like. Was it like sleeping? Was she awake the whole time? If she was awake, what sensations did she experience, and would those sensations or complete sensory deprivation be worse? Things like that, because if it was a dreamless sleep of sorts, the worst part of it all could be completely different, almost like, one minute, she was fighting Celestia, and the next, she was in a changed land. In that case, she wouldn’t have been aware of her imprisonment. The worst aspect of things would have been adjusting to this “new world,” learning about the new, changed culture, and accepting that everyone you cared about in those days is suddenly gone and you never got the chance for closure. It all depends on what Luna’s experience on the moon actually was, and as far as we’re aware, it could have gone multiple ways.

Eleven years later and I am still fascinated by the tragedy of the two sisters. This art in this video clearly shows the real drama of that time, which of course due to the nature of the show could/should never be shown like this. And the lyrics just hit that perfectly. It gives me goosebumps ;-)

I will forever acknowledge that the elements of harmony changed Celestias hair after her fight with Luna from pink to multicolored. The show messed up by showing in the book of twilight her having pink mane before Luna was banished to the moon then after having the new mane color after Luna was trapped in the moon. But then they give us the ep of the battle and celestia has her multicolored mane before Luna's banishment. I get for twilight sake that that's why she thought Luna was trying to take over again, but we all know her mane was pink before that then using the elements turned her mane color after the powerboost. I stand by this opinion forever. 💯

This is amazing. I LOVE how it shows the two sides of the fight. First with Luna believing Celestia is corrupt. This beliefs gives rise to her rebellion as nightmare moon to make things right. We then see Celestia’s side. Trying to talk her sister down and having to live with the sorrow of banishing her sister for 1000 years, constantly second guessing herself with “was this the only way, or could I have done something different”. Both sides believe they were in the right making the story we see a masterpiece

Fantastic melody, the lyrics flow really well (just one thing you've really improved on over the years!) and it just has no right to hit this bloody hard.
