Principles #8 - Landing Errors and How to Fix Them

This lesson teaches you the most common errors pilots make on landing and how to fix them.
The actual errors, their consequences, and why they happen are demonstrated along with the "fixes," or corrective actions, that let you recover the landing after making the error.
The safest option that covers any of these situations is a "Go Around" and this procedure is included as well in the video. I've shown it as a generalised procedure so you can use it in any airplane, but you should always look at the Pilot's Operating Handbook for specifics related to the airplane you fly.

One addition to the go-around (when there is traffic) pull off to the right side and parallel the runway so you can monitor take-off traffic on the runway. But thats trivial compared to this excellent tutorial!

Good tips but in some aircraft using the ailerons won't do much to save you at low speed because they can lose most (or all) of their effectiveness (even before touchdown in some cases). It's always worth making the aileron control input but sometimes only using the engine to blast some air over the tail will let you correct your roll-out and avoid a ground loop altogether, rather than just riding it out.

Very true Jimmy! I have started a video covering ground loops specifically, but I'm waiting on some tailwheel materials to fully complete it. If included it though would have made the video way too long (I feel like this one is already on the long side) so I only focused on saving yourself in a developed ground loop and not so much on the theory and prevention side of things.

No worries Toad, practice makes perfect. Always aim to land on centerline because if you can land on centerline you can land anywhere!

Good point. I guess I forgot about those since I don't see them very often/let them fully develop. Depending on severity I usually take control after the initial pitch movement if the student is completely oblivious or snap them out of it by telling them to go around if there is enough time.

My favorite landing error is forgetting to drop your landing gear.
