1. why did gregor mendel choose pea plant for his experiments? name at least three contrasting characteristics studied by mendel in pea plant 2. what are alleles? 3. what is a punnett square? draw a punnett square for a dihybrid cross and describe the ratios of phenotypes 4. explain the law of dominance. what is its exception? explain and give an example of this exception 5. explain the law of segregation 6. what is co-dominance? explain it with the help of an example 7. give reasons why mendels work was not recognised immediately after it was proposed 8. why did thomas hunt morgan choose drosophila melanogaster in his experiments to prove the chromosomal theory of inheritance 9. what is linkage and recombination? (maybe they’ll give fig.5.11 and ask multiple questions from it like maybe a four marker sub division sort of a thing) 10. what are polygenic traits? give an example 11. what is pleiotropy? give an example of disease caused by it 12. what is male heterogamy? what sort of heterogametry do human beings possess? 13. honeybees have a haplodiploid sex-determination system. explain in detail 14.what is mutation? what is point mutation? give an example of it 15. what is frameshift mutation? 16. what are mutagens? give an example 17. give two examples of mendelian disorders and explain them briefly 18. what’s the difference between thalassemia and sickle cell anemia? 19. what is aneuploidy? give an example 20. what is trisomy of a chromosome? give an example and describe it briefly 21. what is monosomy of a chromosome? give an example and describe it briefly 22. what are the features of turners syndrome?
