I wanted to ask a question to clarify some simple concepts. We always hear that we have two copies of every gene (one from father and another from mother). When we say that, do we mean the 5-3 strand and 3-5 strand double stranded DNA? Or do we mean that there are actually two copies of the gene, each having its own 5-3 strand and 3-5 strand?
@helpwithchemistry
@helpwithchemistry Жыл бұрын
We inherit two versions of each gene, one from the mother and one from the father, and each gene comes with a complete double stranded DNA double helix molecule, each having its own 5-3 strand and 3-5 strand.

Hi there, I'm not sure if you'll read this but I'm trying to create a novel and in this work, I have a set of non-identical twins one with very white almost blonde hair and the other with very dark black hair. I was wondering if this was possible and if so, what would the parents possibly look like?
@savethenacktschnecke
@savethenacktschnecke Жыл бұрын
My brother is quite light blond (but with a red beard) and blue eyes, my sister is dark brown haired (i'm light brunette). We sister both have hazel eyes. Our parents have dark brown hair an dark hazel eyes (dad), light brown hair and light hazel eyes (mom).

@Science_Sauce

No - the random assortment of chromosomes is not the only thing that leads to variation. Research “crossing over” of chromosomes if you’re interested in learning more.

Do all sperm cells of the same parent have the same 23 chromosomes? Or each sperm cell has a different set of 23 chromosomes?
@shalom_wonder13
@shalom_wonder13 Жыл бұрын
Each sperm cell contains half the father's DNA. But it's not identical from sperm to sperm because each man is a mixture of the genetic material from his parents, and each time a slightly different assortment of that full DNA set gets divided to go into a sperm.
@Nikos10
@Nikos10 Жыл бұрын
@@shalom_wonder13 so it can be either the left or the right side of each of the 23 chromosomes

Great video; it cleared up some of my fogginess. I had thought that an allele was half a strand of DNA, and that we inherited a half-strand from each parent. Well, no, I didn't believe that last part. Such is the nature of not understanding things - It's murky soup.

Heredity is how traits and characteristics are passed from parents to their children. It explains why you might look like your parents or have similar traits to your family members. Traits like eye color, hair color, and even certain behaviors can be inherited from your parents.

✳️ Inheritance is not a dirty word or a shame, it is a BIRTH RIGHT👍✌️😁. In which you rightfully earned and deserve from your good deeds in your past life. To all the people who are blessed by God and good parents, who are born into good families or fortunate circumstances (such as good looks, good physique, good childhood, good upbringing, born in a 1st world country), ⛔️Don't submit to the false teachings and false values. Never be ashamed of your birth right. Don't feel shameful, just be GRATEFUL of your inheritance. 😊

You have more of a percentage of dna from which ever parent you mostly resemble if you didn’t you wouldn’t resemble more of them people have been taught this in a very bias way that leads more toward taking after the mother. But that is untrue males and females can have a higher percentage of dna from their father than their mother.

I don't believe in inheriting disease, I believe one inheriting bad habits, bad food we grow up with to do the same things it have done to our family tree. Which today things are now coming out that the government, and business system might have known about all the time. Then someone want to ask me do I trust our system, which is a stupid thing to ask someone. When we watched, or I watched for sixty years, and more since I was able to comprehend the things I see. My program America been washed out my life, or it never came into my life. Because the people I grow around never put me on the fantasy life.
