I felt that "Keep these to build into a prop someday" comment. I have a whole box of "Printer Bits" for that same purpose from upgrading my Prusa MK3 to an MK3S+ and SL1 to an SL1S. I love these machines and their upgrade paths.

It's great having these smaller uploads between big project vids. I'm very excited to see where the Karlach project goes, but obviously that's not the sort of things that gets built overnight

This is a great feature Prusa has for their users. I wish this process was as easy for the other brands.

I'll admit I'm actually kind of afraid of modifying the electronics of my own 3D printer, the only modifications I've been making have been mostly cosmetic. I pulled the Filament spool mount off of the top of the gantry and intend on having it mounted on the front left side of the printer, I also added some V-Slot covers to keep things a bit cleaner.

Theres a known issue with this upgrade where it cannot properly level the leftmost side of the bed. Just a heads up.

Cool to see some behind-the-scenes content! Comparing the upgraded Mk3.5 to the starting Mk3, what parts of the Mk3.5 upgrade do you think were the biggest improvements, or most useful new features?

The speed, more than anything. It is bananas how fast newer FDM printers are getting.

I looked to upgrade my Prusa MK3, but by the time I added in the correct options, I was only a little away from the price of a new MK4 so it isn't worth the price to upgrade...

You mentioned that these things "advance so fast". I don't know if I'd call 7 or more years of the M3 before the M4 would be considered fast by tech standards.

I see what you mean, but I was talking about 3D printer tech in general. They've made some big leaps forward in the last couple of years.

You guys are just talking to fill space lol. And we end up getting ridiculous things like.Thermal pads are a “feature”. No, they’re just part of it. As like calling a steering wheel a feature on your car. A feature is an additional characteristic or functionality that enhances the overall value or usability of a product but is not essential for its basic operation. Features are often optional or add-ons. • Integral Component: An integral component is a necessary part of a system that is crucial for its basic operation. Without it, the system would not function as intended. Also, the metal housing for the computer does not add any extra stability to the frame. It’s mounted on the horizontal part that has no flexing or torsion

Consider this: the 3.5 upgrade kit comes with a price tag roughly equivalent to that of a brand-new Sovol SV07, a machine that surpasses the MK4 in performance - it's faster, equipped with Klipper inside, and boasts dynamic input shaping, features the MK4 currently lacks. This is why all of our MK3S+ units will remain untouched until they can be replaced by superior and more cost-effective machines. Now, if you happen to own just a single machine and find yourself sentimentally attached to it, I can sympathize with the desire to upgrade, even though it might not be the wisest course of action.

People are way too used to Chinese prices, Prusa machines are made in Europe, so yeah that makes it more expensive. Also, I really like how proven the platform is by now, after a few printers, I just built my MK4 and boy did I have to do that earlier. My other printers also work fine, after modding them to basically the price of the MK4. :) Upgrading is always a good idea, the amount you learn from it alone is worth it. Also... I just ignore platform discussions normally as I'm busy just using it as a tool.

My thoughts too. That and... As tired as it is to hear. Bambu printers really are different. Like legit a generation jump where buying anything older is just a waste of money if you can get by with the print bed size. I printed a full power rangers helmet in I believe 6 hours? At basically .08 surface layer height. Vs my sv01 that printed just a face shell in 22 hours at .3mm 🤯 I started and still love my SV01. Genuinely love my Sovol. Had 2 ender 3's in the past and will never recommend that to anyone. ESPECIALLY today. First one had 2 slots bridging on my board so it was arcing electricity (just before thermal runaway protection became a thing). And then the second one came with it's z axis frame completely bent. All this to say. If you're going open source. I'm with you on Sovol. I think the 06 had issues but then they patched literally all of them with the 06 pro(?) if I'm remembering correctly.

@@VincentGroenewold My perspective is that upgrades are a futile expenditure of both time and money, a cycle from which one finds it challenging to extricate oneself. Moreover, when does one decide that spending several times the price of the machine on upgrades is a sound idea? It's far more sensible to invest in a quality machine from the outset. In the 1970s, there was widespread disparagement of products from Japan. Yet, less than a decade later, the youth had Sony headphones on their ears, and twenty years after that, Toyota became the leading automaker in the USA. Presently, several Chinese machines outclass the Prusa MK4. At an equivalent price point, you have the X1 Carbon: faster, equipped with dynamic input shaping and pressure advance, enclosed, filtered, heated, with superior ventilation, a larger printing volume, WiFi, among other advantages. No upgrades necessary as it has everything, including a mobile application... Now, let's consider the MK3.5 upgrade, which was the initial topic of discussion. For the same price, jus as an example besides others, you could acquire a SOVOL SV07 with a planetary extruder, equivalent machine architecture, native Klipper support, and at least the same level of performance as the MK4. There's no tangible reason to prefer an upgrade to an MK3.5 over opting for a SOVOL SV07; just sentimental reasons, which I can empathize with.

I haven’t heard good things about the 3.5 upgrade, one reason I’ve never bothered for my MK3S (plus I have the revo upgrade, which doesn’t play nicely for a variety of reasons). Supposed to be pretty buggy, and I don’t feel like playing beta tester for Prusa, which seems to be the case for their most recent releases (XL still has issues, MK4 was lacking the promised input shaper/advance stuff until recently, etc). Seems like with every new release they’re more and more incomplete in various parts instead of having major kinks worked out beforehand.
