Dorms work by having a number of squares per prisoner to calculate capacity. I think it's 4. You have 30 squares. The nearest whole number to 30/4 when rounded down is 7. The research is for small cells. It doesn't mention dorms. That wall occupied 2 squares so removing it took you up to 32. 32/4 is 8.

Oh wow, nice one man! I had no idea that the dorms worked like that, that's really good to know :D thanks for the info ^_^ I kinda figured out it was something to do with a capacity issue in the next episode but decided to opt for the ignorance is bliss option 😅 (Don't worry, I'm not going to forget about them 😉 i plan to convert the dorm into a holding cell as a work around for now)
