There was a book published in the mid 80s to accompany the series and the writers of the series said that they did base Adams as a male version of Joan. It is a fantastic book that contains a whole lot of info on the show, the characters, the actors and actresses, locations and a whole section on where they got the ideas for the plots. There are interviews with all the major and some of the minor actors/actresses and whole chapters dedicated to Bea, Vera, Coleen, Erica, Ann, Jim, Joan, Doreen, Lizzie, et al, even Noleen Burke! The only chapter I didn’t read was on Bryant - I never liked her. At the end there was a list of every one of the actors and actresses agents that you could write to contact them. I wrote to several and got replies from everyone. It’s a great book and over 500 pages with lots of pics too.

The Joan Ferguson character should have well been disposed of by now. They're really stretching it and it's just become a total bore to watch anymore. The character has lost people through death due to her evil and corrupt ways .. There was Audrey who was killed by other inmates in Queensland because of her, her two dogs suffered the same fate due to her corruption, her father was kidnapped and brutally assaulted, Terri Malone became a target but they put the bomb in the wrong car, Shane Munro was never hurt but a threat on his life was made by Marie Winters, her house was lit on fire twice, the second time it burnt to the ground. She crossed mob bosses like Lionel Fellows and Harry Parker, she becomes an enemy of the biker group The Conquerers and because of her Andrew Hinton was deliberately killed in a hit and run. She has suffered injury after injury, in fact sometimes she even came out of situations unscathed. She was behind almost every corrupt and underhanded dealings that went on in Wentworth. The character Joan "The Freak" Ferguson was well and truly over done and I guess it wouldn't have been so bad to keep the character going to the end if only she had learned from all her losses and changed for the better. By this point especially after Andrew Hinton's death there really wasn't anything more to do with this character except to turn her into a nice person! Let's face it the majority of us actually liked her in her happy moments. So around this time would have been a good time to change that. Then why not at the end, catch her in a moment of corruption and get her shipped off to Prison. This endless day in day out evil and corrupt behaviour of hers just simply became tiresome to watch 👎

I haven't tried to be aware of the credits, but I'm wondering if the director changed a good few episodes ago, coz it's been like a bloody amateur dramatics local town theatre group playing for quite some episodes. It's actually been quite painful to watch a lot of the time- way too much screaming, screeching, overacting and throwing themselves around. Plus the really childish interactions between the prisoners and the 'games' they've been playing. I'm dying for some intelligent scripts and storylines. I'm only still watching it coz I've gotta see it through to the end now- I'm so close i can feel it.... (then i can watch my Wonder Woman boxset FINALLY!!!) :)
