This series really showed that to me Paul is the best interviewer/reporter in all media. Thomas Frank is a tricky guy to interview because he lacks some backbone (not meant in a bad way), and I understand why he can't have a simple, clear, unapologetic view on everything. Great series of 6 episodes as always, he appeals to me because he is not biased with American-Exceptionalism. Turns out that this is extremely important when talking US news with US citizen.

The reason the polarize people is make them think they are different from each other. But they are exactly the same.
@condew61037 жыл бұрын
Yes, like that phrase that's so popular "The white working class". Typical Hillary, creating division. I see only a working class, some of whom are women, some men, some white, some people of color. But they all work for a living and they all should get pay and benefits that give them a pretty good life. But Hillary could not stop condemning the "white working class", and then when they didn't turn out to vote for her, she blames them! An article on the Carrier plant that was closing during the election described the workforce as "half women, half men, half black, and with a smattering of recent immigrants". If you believe the bullshit Hillary and the DNC are pushing, the women and people of color who were put out of work should be overjoyed that white men were put out of work, and never mind their own livelihood was exported, too.

Blew it, hell, we were betrayed by a slick, smooth talking, pretty-faced film flam man named Obama.
@adamlynch69547 жыл бұрын
Edward Siegel that is totally ridiculous
@condew61037 жыл бұрын
Actually, the betrayer was Bill Clinton, aka "Slick Willy". He was the inventor of "Where are they gonna go" politics with two pro-business parties and nobody looking out for working people. Not that Republicans look out for anybody who's not rich, but Democrats were the party of working people and abandoned them, so they deserve special condemnation for knowing what was right but selling out. Compared to Slick Willy, Obama was just a "me too". It's kind of poetic justice that when Bill Clinton's betrayal was exposed, it was his wife, Hillary who lost because of it.

Edward Siegal, you are absolutely correct. Obama had a perfect storm of events, rhetoric/policy promises, and support to pull this nation from the precipice of doom and instead he knowingly betrayed the American people. As Frank points out, we may never get another opportunity like that. Because of that, Obama will always be the worst president ever in my mind.

A lot of people had high hopes for Obama and really thought that change was possible with him. I had already been disillusioned during the Clinton years so I didn't expect much after 2008. I wasn't disappointed.

HOW DISAPPOINTED we LEARNED about Obama as he took his Presidency! Truly, I KNEW Obama is a CAPALIST, after watching all their DEBATES! The only difference between he & Hillary is that he did NOT vote for the Iraq Invasion ........ but if he was a Senator then ........ would he; and I say YES! Obama is a CLONE of Bill Clinton! Speak WELL, win us over, just to DECEIVE US, once they are in office! When we Study our History, one will learn that it took the Traitor Democrat's (Clinton, Obama, Hillary) to BETRAY the Democratic Party, to do the Undercover Business of the Republican, 1% Party! It's so sad, that the MAJORITY of Americans could give a SHIT about their NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, too many of them VOTE FOR SELFISHNESS, and WHY we have the TRAITOR'S in Washington as we do! For they VOTED for the pos's in office, HOPING their LIVES would be BETTER, all while, they are is total MISERY! YET THESE SELFISH, RACIST ASSHOLES VOTE FOR THESE SAME BASTARDS, THAT IS MAKING THEIR LIVES AS BAD AS IT HAS BECOME!

@marciukspuks53537 жыл бұрын
one dot that Thomas never connects in this 6 part series is democrats agreement under carter to balance the Federal budget. that is the actual starting point of neoliberalism. without the balanced budget agreement Reagan and Clinton would never even come to be.
@dougen92377 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is extremely important! Most Dems even now stupidly believe that Bill Clinton did a very good thing by balancing the budget (by slashing social programs) at the end of his term, something Hillary constantly praised and few Dems criticized in 2016. And yes, Carter and his Trilateral Commission friends started this trend.

Hilary blew it. While Trump had Bannon as a strategist, Hilary had Podesta. How lucky she is that now she can blame everything on Putin and Russia. No need for self evaluation. She clearly did not know how to communicate with the Rust Belt voters and she took Rust Belt voters for granted. She also was impacted by WIener sending photos of his crotch to the under aged girls (that triggered second Comey investigation).

Eisenhower said it best ... we are becoming a military industrial complex. We should not mix patriotism with militarism. Of course when there was the conflict between USSR and USA we had to be vigilant. However, USSR was totalitarians and it was that form of government that makes us as Americans anxious. This is a great set of discussions with Thomas Frank

@65minimom7 жыл бұрын
So Dr Frank, I respect you so much so why not write a new book re support of 3rd parties? The duopoly is dead, we need better choices, the system is corrupt which you pointed out brilliantly so why not forecast the hope for America of the future & the path to take forward? Bernie Sanders, hero of progressives will never be permitted to succeed w the dems so now what?

I'd like to think that all those Democrat failures were "blunders", but I fear that the reality is much darker. Funny how all these "blunders" result in a transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top (www.motherjones.com/politics/2016/12/america-income-inequality-wealth-net-worth-charts/), isn't it? I think this video explains the situation best: act.represent.us/sign/the-problem/?source=homepage_2
