Your video gave me the courage to tackle replacing my battery myself. I'm far from a mechanic! Of course it died in my garage and even though the doors were unlocked I couldn't open the back hatch. Thanks to your detailed video I knew I had to get it jump started. I used a battery charger that has a 50amp option and so grateful you mentioned the battery is AGM, so I used that setting. It started right up, so I quickly unlocked the doors and opened the hatch before turning off car. The rest was SO easy after watching you do it. Thanks a million...

You can open trunk with no power from inside. There is small plastic cover under trunk plate which you take off and then you can open trunk lock with hand. Look at the manual.

If you have a portable jump starter you could have jumped at the battery itself (the cables won't reach across the engine bay. Too short). Unfortunately it's apparently a pain to get to the trunk if the battery dies so I'm guessing engine bay method to get home but ultimately you want to clean up the battery terminals regularly. One other thought. Be careful with all that stuff in your car. Blocking the vent port for the hybrid battery is no bueno. Good video though.

For someone not used to hybrids, the behavior with a dead battery is really bizarre and the jump start location is certainly unorthodox.

They do, there is a manual release lever on the inside, right under where the latch is.

U need to get a AGM (absorbant glass mat) battery charger & charge 4amps for 10hrs. If it's 5yrs or more, prob need battery replaced.

You don't have to jump the car to open the trunk. Unlock the back door, flip down the seat, remove the wheel cover, and pop the latch.

Thanks for your video. i have a problem and wondering whether you could figure it out. my prius would not start. I took it to toyota and they checked the battery and said it was ok. They did a drain test and said there was no drainage. They returned the car and said every thing was fine. The next day the car would not start. I jump started it. What do you think is the problem

That 12v battery turns the computers on to start the car. If it dies, the car doesn't start. The good news is it's very low power so booster packs work great.

Try break padel for 10 sec stops sounding then you can start it for a couple of days before install new or fully loaded battery...

It's in the cabin so it's supposed to be vented plus it's AGM which is a gel instead of lead acid so it doesn't leak. And yes they sell for over $200 if you get OEM or brand name

This car is so frustrating! The car has not been driven in 2 years (this is my son's car and he's been out of the country for 2 years), so there is no juice whatsoever. The manual key does not work (I believe it needs a bit of electricity to click over.). If I can get into the hood area, I have this really cool booster that can jump start vehicles BUT THE SPAN BETWEEN NEGATIVE AND POSITIVE IS ONLY ABOUT 6 INCHES!! Why in the heck do they put the negative clip on the other side of the freaking engine!!???

Probably won’t shock u but I saw a guy get skin grafts from the burns doing that. Could also make the battery explode if it arcs.

One small problem the normal cable clip is far to big to fit . The one very stupid thing a Toyota did on the Prius is the twelve volt battery system.

Gunslingerheel I did this about a year ago, can runs perfect, the main batteries are still in great condition. Those crappy starter batteries dont last that long, I was shocked I got 7 years out of it
