This week I have been busy working out costings and a budget for my 2021 Race Season. This is something I do every year so that I know how much money I need to earn before pre season training and how much money I need to raise through sponsorships to afford to go racing. I have worked out a number that will allow me to do things properly but with a budget in mind, and it scares the hell out of me.... But I will make it work!
Thanks again for all the support! #PrivateertoPro

100% would love to see a sponsorship video. It’s very interesting seeing the behind the scenes of racing as a privateer.

Good video. Its definantly not a great financial descision to go racing and try and go pro considering how little the top pros make and how hard it is to get to that level, but like we all know its all worth it from the memories and experiences along the way.

Any chance of a follow up to this Joel, now that the season is done? Obviously ProMX didn't work out as planned, but you guys got around and got in a fair amount of racing despite the southern states lockdowns. Basically, was your budget realistic and how much was covered by sponsors vs income from training etc.

Hey Mate, At the moment I don't have any deals with win bonuses in place so it is just depended on how much or if the particular race I am doing has prize money. Thanks for watching along!

If only they could be competitive in the 450 class!
@iluvmx1977
@iluvmx1977 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoelEvans a well set up KTM 300 SX could be competitive at amateur level and depending upon rider possibly at pro level also. Ideally you’d need a displacement of 350cc two stroke with a bit of flywheel weight, a balancer and a healthy top end over rev to run head to head with a 450 on most tracks. The 2 stroke vs 4 stroke is a long and ongoing debate, I think we are too far down the emissions climate change rabbit hole to ever see 2 strokes make a comeback in MX. While 4 strokes are a more competitive overall package in the 450 class, they are heavy, require a high level of fitness to hang onto for a full Moto and are more power than 70% of the pro class can use to its full potential. I think also the biggest reason we don’t see factory 300cc bikes running against 450’s is because most riders now have adapted their riding style to suit the 4 stroke and it’s a lot less R&D to get a competitive 4 stroke package for the average punter. Let’s be serious, there’s nothing like the sound of a full grid of 2 strokes at full noise on a starting gate, and the smell!, that sweet smell of castor in the air is enough to turn a grown man into an excited little kid 😂.

@@JoelEvans and the biggest reason 4 strokes suck, is outlined clearly in your video, cost.

Poor country motocross rider here =) Jeez hearing you change chain and sprocket every 20 hours... I know pros wear bikes much faster that amateurs but still. Seems pretty expensive to be a fast rider =)

@JoelEvans

Hey Mate, I definitely don’t get it back but my aim is to drop it to as close to $0 as possible. I am still planning on doing a sponsorship video showing how I try to drop the $80,000. It’s just more work than I expected haha
@prestigetradingfx
@prestigetradingfx 3 жыл бұрын
what job do u do to afford all of this???
@JoelEvans
@JoelEvans 3 жыл бұрын
The $80,000 is the overall cost before sponsors so, first I bring that overall cost down as much as possible through sponsorships (whether that be product, monetary or discounts). Then I run coaching schools throughout the year and do some work here and there to help cover the remaining costs 👍

Sorry man, can't say I'm a fan of this type of video. No one that is racing the Nationals is walking in to a bike shop and paying full retail for everything they need. Not even close . Swappers that race C grade at club days want everything for nothing. Every pro is at least getting cheap bikes, then got deals at some level for tyres, oils, gear etc. And your prices for stuff you're getting through Raceline, why in the hell would you put a single sticker of theirs on your bike if they do nothing for you except charge you full retail price. And likely that invested parties wouldn't want others knowing what you actually get stuff for making this type of vid pretty pointless imo.
@JoelEvans
@JoelEvans 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mate, Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear enough in the video. This is where I start for the budget, using all retail prices to get a base cost because I don’t have any deals secured for the race season at this stage so it is easier to just use RRP to start. I definitely don’t want to give off the impression I am lying. As I said I am planning to do a Sponsorships video where I will show how I take that original RRP $80,000 and aim to drop it down to as close to $0 as I can through sponsorship deals (Products, Discounts, Monetary). Hopefully that makes more sense now, I want this channel fully transparent so I am not at all trying to deceive anyone. Cheers, Joel
