In croatia there is always that dude outside the boat, telling the skipper what to do right. Needles to say that this dude never takes responsibility over his action. But hey, at least he feels like a real hero.

its rare in ireland, if a boater is in trouble you generally get other boaters verbally helping or helping with ropes.

To maintain steering, if the boat doesn’t have water flowing over the rudder it can’t steer. So if it was going with current it would just be along for the ride.

If you want to keep steering capability, you have to be moving faster than the current, otherwise you may as well be a cork bobbing around at the mercy of the water.

You can also go slower than the current. So you backdown but the engine is in forward. If you are going slower than the current there is water flowing over the rudder.
