An interesting discussion & fresh angle on Punjabi history. I enjoyed it as it's between 2 young Punjabi people educated in UK, bringing a lot of important cultural understanding to their research. Thank you.

Thanks very much for this. I have always wanted to know about the role of Sikh women in that era. I had no idea Ranjit Singh had so many wives and muslims included among them.

The term Sikh Empire is largely misleading and it is a colonial legacy and anchor used it either intentionally or unconsciously but its use make that empire controversial among majority Non Sikh Punjabis.

What are you talking about? Why is it controversial for non-sikhs. People of all faiths lived freely under maharaja Ranjit Singh's rule.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s empire had a population of about 6-7% Sikh and the rest Hindu and Muslim but they lived under the Sikh Ruler and his Kingdom. And to say they lived peacefully and successfully is witnessed in the decades of peace during his reign and the turmoil that followed at the demise of the kingdom
