She did not have a nose job for asthetic reasons. It was a medical surgery. She has talked about it in her memoir " Unfinished". She was very sad about it, said that she felt like someone else for months. And had a couple of corrective surgeries after that.

Everything else is the same to me (she still had full lips then and the nose is the name) She did have a surgery to remove a benign mole that was growing on her nose which she has already talked about. So obv. that procedure shifted her nose a bit, but it was a health thing, not for cosmetics purposes.

I understand what jaby was trying to say when he pointed out how she looks pretty even without makeup but that's the whole problem, mainstream actresses are not only scared to do raw roles like that because they're afraid to show their ugly side but they also don't get taken seriously because of their "pretty face". That's the stereotype we need to get rid of in bollywood, people actually make fun of mainstream actresses for wanting to do more indie movies, saying they just want that indie cred. Maybe it's true for some but they generalize everyone and that's not right. Actors should be allowed to play the roles they want as long as they have the talent and are willing to commit.

I love that Jaby brought up how Asian women in Hollywood are often unnecessarily sexualised, just based on their "exotic" ethnic background. It would be nice to see a South Asian woman having a lead role (as a South Asian) in an American show/movie without being inherently exoticised and/or sexualised just because they're different. And still have her culture be part of her character, but not be the character's entire personality. I understand that the Quantico thing may be a statement that the character is a sexually liberated/open woman, but it still comes off a bit like exoticising/unnecessary sexualisation because it's literally in the pilot episode. Like just an attention grabber to see a South Asian woman like that. But if it is meant to show sexual liberation/openness, there are more nuanced ways of showing that and it could have been done throughout the show rather than as a "bam" in your face sex scene in the pilot. Not saying it wasn't done throughout the show, but having it so blatantly in the pilot episode was... idk, a lot. Just like Jaby said, we don't usually see the same thing for Asian men in leading Hollywood roles, and I also can't imagine the same happening for a white actress casted in the same role with the same international fame as Priyanka. People would watch a white woman or Asian man in this type of lead role and accept it for their acting/entertainment talents, but with Asian women there's always some kind of sexualisation or fetishisation of her "exoticism" that comes along with it. Great of Jaby to point that out, and excellent points made by both. Also, not to disrespect Quantico or Priyanka but I don't like how people kinda imply that as her "breakthrough" role or something, when she had so many prior accomplishments and was obviously HUGE not just in India but internationally before that. Just because it wasn't in the mainstream white American film/tv industry doesn't make it less valid. I mean she was literally Miss World for God's sake. Again, I'm not trying to disrespect Quantico or her, I'm just saying that she didn't need the American tv industry to... "validate" her career, especially when they basically exoticised her in the first episode/unnecessarily sexualised her for no apparent reason which wouldn't have happened with a male actor or white person. She had already had a successful career as both a pageant winner and actor - and is actually a talented actress; she does not just rely on her beauty, she has the acting chops too.
