PRJ: SOLE [10th place Japan Expo 2023]

My entry for Japan Expo 2023. This time I decided to experiment with the story and 3D.
This idea came to me right after the Online contest last December. Therefore, in January, I immediately began to study 3D and build the basis of my work. I had to study a lot of things, as well as a lot of things to prepare for work. In general, I am satisfied with the result, although as I understand the plot has become difficult to understand, due to my inexperience.

Wow the combination of Anime and 3D in your project is just out of this world!! It looks so good and a big number of scenes looked so realistoc, like they're from the actual anime! It's very poetic, in its narrative communication as well as in its ambitious design. I really like the vibe and I have to admit its interesting. The principal problem for me and the two other judges was we didn't understand the tragic story at all. I naturally think you got lost doing this one. Maybe because it's the first time you've produced one, I think it would have served you to do a storyboard before developing the clip. And unfortunately, when you don't recognize a story, you naturally lose points in the eyes of a viewer. On the technical point of view, I find that you could have better embedded your maskings to your 3D backgrounds, there is a lack of depth of field, a lack of Light Wrap and Stroke on the maskings, not enough shadow play between your masks, your 3D objects and your backgrounds. All this gives a flat and not refined enough rendering. Same things for the 3D models, the textures seem quite flat, I'm sure there was a way to find more real ones, or trying to get closer to the look of the anime to use would have been a possible solution. But I however felt your desire to do something out of the ordinary and appreciate the determined effort. Don't be discouraged, you undoubtedly possess an immense potential and it is very exponential. No doubt you will properly manage to shock more than one, one day. I sincerely believe it. Keep it up!

Thanks a lot I have been studying 3D for only half a year, so I don’t know much yet. As for the story, I wanted to do something new and unusual, but it seems that I got too carried away. I will keep getting better
