Great video! Hazel gave some really helpful tips on managing fear, I like her idea of check-ins during a climbing session.

Lovely to see more mental coaching on youtube! Hazel is a great mental coach! As with deep water soloing, you don't want to practice falling high up unless you have proper diving training, because the risk might not be worth the improvement. Where your "no falling zone" comes entirely depends on your experience with the activity (e.g. diving in this example) but there will be a point where the cost-benefit ratio will decrease significantly. There is when you want to go for these fear management (rather than desensitization) techniques!

I was watching another climbing video and thinking about how fear prevents me from committing. I scrolled down and here is your video! Did the KZbin algorithm read my mind? Lol. Great climbing, and great tips on overcoming fear, and I'm only six minutes in. Thanks, Hazel and Josh.

This is the Psicobloc (pronounced see-koh-bloc) it means crazy boulder 😊the mat was made specifically for this and they tested it by landing onto a 2 meter squared size sample from various heights from a cherry picker. 😅 It’s located at The Boardroom Climbing Ltd Queensferry, North Wales.

21:02 "Do you ever start reading a route and then when it's long and you get bored and want to stop?" Yes I do, all the time. And if someone ever gives me crap about it I just tell them I'm practicing my onsighting. I don't think they believe me but they also can't prove I'm BSing them!

@snake_plant
@snake_plant Жыл бұрын
It's typically the length, steepness and fear factor that bump it up. Very pumpy, hard to rest (and far more likely to overgrip than with ropes) and all considered definitely feels equivalent of a standard 6b+ on a vert top rope as a result even if the specific moves/holds are easier. Id always take a 6c+ top rope over the 6b+ psicobloc anyday of the week 😂
@MyChannel-bh6sc
@MyChannel-bh6sc Жыл бұрын
@@snake_plant While I agree with you, the last statement seems a bit redundant 😅. I mean, there's zero risk or fear involved with toprope. I think the psicobloc is more comparable to indoor lead climbing.
