‼️FOR THOSE THAT DONT KNOW‼️ Hey guys just so yall know they’re talking about vocational schools. Not if you’re already graduated highschool - if you’re already graduated you can take fast track classes and have your cos license in 6-8 months depending on how intense you do the course but normally it takes about a year or 1500 hours logged during your courses

They’re talking about the cosmetology program at Northern Michigan University , which is not a typical cosmetology program because it’s run by a major academic university. Most cosmetology programs are private, independent, for-profit institutions and last less than a year (and are usually cheaper than this program). This program is kind of like for people who want to get some kind of “college experience” but do cosmetology. It doesn’t give you a typical bachelors degree, but lasts two years and is housed on the university campus

I worked in the beauty industry for years, one of the girls that I worked with was like 5 years younger than me, barely 20 and looked so much older. She told me that while she was in esthetician school she had gotten three microdermabrasions to help her classmates practice..... And I'm like oh my God you completely destroyed your moisture barrier and why didn't anybody stop you? None of them knew any better. That was about 10 years ago so I hope she has been able to repair some of the damage that she had done. But it was also kind of satisfying to me because she would always wave around that estheticians license even though it didn't make her successful in our industry. She was also like wildly disrespectful to all the other women that we worked with and probably had the lowest numbers of anyone. Crazy how that works.

For those wondering, I believe this is the cosmetology program at Northern Michigan University, which is not a typical cosmetology program because it’s housed at an academic university as opposed to a small independent school of some kind. I don’t think “Not taking core classes,” is a good thing. My friend got fired because she couldn’t compose an email that was going to go out to clients, which wasn’t her fault, but she lost her job. Her boss shouldn’t have asked someone she KNEW had never taken a “core class,” to write an email. Still, it is not a “pro,” when you’re going to school to train for a job, and you can’t perform basic functions like counting a till or writing an email, because the place that educated you doesn’t think cosmetologists need to be competent in anything but cosmology.
@d.n.89193 ай бұрын
I agree. People complain about this all the time, but a lot of people lack basic skills and a basic understanding of how the world works. I don’t necessarily think core classes should be required for trades like cosmetology or welding, but for a 4 year academic university degree? Yes. It sucks that university is so expensive, I know, and I get that, but university is supposed to result in becoming a knowledgeable and well-rounded individual.
