Behind the scenes on a training ride with Kiwi professional cyclist for Israel-Premier Tech, Paddy Bevin, talking about his 2022 so far...
See the ride on Strava: / strava
Paddy has had an up and down 2022 so far, crashing and breaking his collarbone in his first race of the year. But then he bounced back to win the overall classification of the Tour of Turkey, as well as stage 3 of the Tour de Romandie. We have a chat about what he's experienced so far this year, and what he's looking forward to next...

The quality of the video is insane. It amazes me that you’re filming only with an iPhone and not caring a 2 kg camera on your back!

Thanks Antony! Yeah the Kiwis definitely punch above their weight over here. Such a good group of guys and such strong riders. The stage of Romandie that Paddy won had 3 Kiwis in the top 10. Possibly a first ever in a WT race which is cool.

Cool interview. 1300W's for 20secs?! I'd be happy if I could hit 1200 for 1! lol Always remember seeing this ramp test Paddy did with his old NRS team and him completing 550W's! Was thinking man get this guy in the WT after that!

I would love to know if he has removed the plate in his clavicle. Riding with a clavicle plate can get nasty if you fall again on that same shoulder.

Tristan, can you make a video about the different challenges with head winds vs. tail winds? You guys mentioned it a little bit but it seems like certain things can be challenging in a tail wind, what is it about the tail wind that makes racing harder?
@tristantakevideo
@tristantakevideo 2 жыл бұрын
Hey man, I’ve been thinking about talking about the benefits of training in tailwinds for this specific reason. Basically the faster you’re going, the harder it is (and more watts it requires) to increase your speed. When there’s a tailwind in a race everyone is already going so fast it requires way more work to be faster than the rest and everyone kind of reaches this “terminal velocity”..if that makes sense? Next time you’re out riding, go down a hill at top speed and then try increasing your speed even more..you’ll see what I mean. This is also why riders train behind a scooter (“motorpacing”)..to replicate the high speeds in racing and the high wattages required to keep up. Pushing big watts at high speeds requires very specific work that can’t be achieved in regular training.
