Wyatt Knox, Special Projects Director at the Team O'Neil Rally School, takes a look at some more driving scenes from television and film and breaks down how accurate they really are. Does an all-wheel drive car like the one featured in Baby Driver really have an advantage over front or rear-wheel drive cars? Do the horsepower numbers from the car pulling scene in The Fate of the Furious really add up? Are Talladega Nights' drafting scenes true to real NASCAR?

The most unrealistic part of LA driving scenes is them actually being able to drive greater than 5 mph.
@B0mber44
@B0mber44 4 жыл бұрын
Well it would be realistic. The reason you drive at 5 mph all the time is because all the roads are blocked so they can make these movies of people driving. Just jokes. Have a laugh

As someone who grew up in LA... this is one of my biggest pet peeves in movies set in LA. The only movie that ever did it right was The Italian Job (Remake) where traffic was a legitimate problem for the get-away driver and a good chunk of the movie was spent figuring out how to make the street traffic a non-issue.

I love how the "Jumping the Car - Dukes of Hazzard" you can actually see the camera mounted on the passenger side of the car as it runs up to the jump... Watch closely at 12:02 and it switches to that camera at 12:06. Fun fact: None of the cars survived those big jumps. It's estimated that between 256 and 321 "General Lee" vehicles were destroyed during the making of Dukes of Hazzard.

Yeah, gives you perspective of where you are. First you're in the Charger, then we see the followup and next you're in the Mustang in the same scene. Great continuity.

I was “unintentionally” pit maneuvered by a plow truck one winter, after passing him in a double lane … it was wild. Plus the plow blew out the tire it hit. So lucky I ended up stabilizing on the road, in my lane, and somehow still in front of the truck after turning two 360s. 😋

I, uh, pulled that 360 maneuver in front of a FedEx and lived to tell the tale. Last freak snow/sleet storm of 2010 (March) hydroplaned. Initially started skidding towards the semi truck, had a moment of panic (turning the wheel against the skid) before logic hit and I turned the wheel in the direction of the skid. The car broke loose, we flip 180 and were nose to nose. The driver saved us by moving into the passing lane as we whipped around again to end up on the exit ramp to Wamego, KS. No one got hurt. It still blows my mind.

That is one thing I’ve noticed. “If you look for the good places you’ll go to the good places” when driving at 15-25 mph faster than the rest of traffic and depending on traffic density, there’s a different rhythm to traffic, and it’s quite easy to get around people.

I love his explanation for the jag busting through the C-pillar and the mini going down the stairs. but for a lot of them he was just like "there is no CG. next movie"... was hoping for more detail, like how they might have done it, or what would make it difficult IRL... like some deeper knowledge, not like... "when you do a jump, you want a nice landing ramp". things I might not know about cars, driving, or how they film car chases.

What is really cool is the fact that the car roll in the man with the golden gun is that it wasn't a stunt driver doing the stunt but one of the stunt engineers that had to do it since the stunt driver couldn't be there when it needed to be done.

If I remember correctly, to get the actors in Ronin in close-up look like they were driving, they used right-hand drive versions of the car but fitted left-hand drive dashboards and a fake steering wheel. The actor moved the fake wheel and acted like they were driving while, out of shot, the stunt driver in the right front seat manoeuvered the car.
