Brilliant video. However I hope people don't see this, think they can do it as easy as you guys made it look and get complacent. Realistically, a serious injury in this game is bleed out before the rescuer's even off the ground kinda territory... Practice rescues, get it right, then get it fast, and even then be prepared to be absolutely useless if your mate hits an artery 60ft up and your kits in the van. Coming into the Arb world from a rock climbing instructing background, I've had many active rescues as an instructor running an indoor wall, but truly hope I never have to do a tree rescue!

Alternate thought: It could have been the camera angle but is it just me or are the ground folks at times standing/ working under a suspended load? First duty of responder is to make sure no one else gets hurt. Would there have been a way to secure the injured climber and then just cut a line(s) and flop the limb to the ground to eliminate a potential hazard? The rest of the rescue seemed well done but it was focussed on the rescue. The trunk section still up there gave me the willies (coud it have been an OSHA citation?).

I'm surprised they moved it with out a back board. I thought, you're not supposed too move anybody unless it's a fire situation or gas leak. Ain't that first aid 101. I'm not starting an argument i could be wrong......

Charles Goetz A lot has changed with regard to backboard usage because of research done. Additionally there are practical considerations here. You're not likely going to backboard him in the tree. They did manage his c-spine once on the ground. Spinal motion restriction is generally the protocol now, vs backboarding everyone. In my region backboards are essentially only used if they would make extrication or movement easier. Worth consulting your local resources though to see what specific recommendations exist.
