Dave, this is a beautiful hidden gem, despite the prominent role of that traitor Modell. Thank you from a lifetime Browns fan!

What a GREAT find Dave!! Never saw this before. Thank you for sharing this!! Despite knowing how the Colts fans were devastated about losing their team Modell did the same thing to the Cleveland fans. Two of THE best fan bases during the NFL's hey day. Neither should've ever moved. I wonder where Modell would've moved the Bronws if Irsay never betrayed the Charm City.

Great selection and enhancement, Dave! I remember seeing this in about 2005 on the NFL Channel, the NFL Network predecessor.

It's interesting to read the credits on this rare non-NFL Films football documentary. The one that caught my attention was that this was directed by William Friedkin. Friedkin won the Best Director Oscar for "The French Connection" and was nominated for "The Exorcist". David L. Wolper produced this film. Wolper produced several historical documentaries in the 1960s and 70s as well as producing movies such as "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", "L.A. Confidential" and the TV miniseries "Roots".

Wolper was produced the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympics in LA and 2 year later Liberty Weekend in NYC

David Wolper. William Friedkin. Mel Stuart. And Van Heflin. Pretty good starting backfield for this production. Great find David!

Oh my word! The cinematography and style are amazing and still resonate 60 years later. Timeless classic that only stokes the passion for football! Precursor to Hard Knocks

I actually lived with my grandfather in Cleveland in '65 and remember going out to Hiram with my uncle and getting autographs. What the video doesn't share is that (at least as far as I've got) Paul Warfield who had a great rookie season and allowed Collins to get single coverage in the Champ game against BAL fractured his leg in the College All Star game (which is long gone!)

This blows HBO's "Hard Knocks" out of the water! This is THE best training camp film i've ever seen. AND, the great Jimmy Smith is providing the background music!

I was born in 1963....... I wasnt allowed to play Football, even though my Gym teacher beseeched my folks to let me play. Apparently, my folks sub scribed to this view of American football. I got some measure of satisfaction, i played Ice Hockey after the age of 13, and played in College. Really hard to do in Western Pa. During the Super Steeler Era of the 70's

What an absolute gem of a documentary! Wolper productions were quite busy during this period, so for David Wolper to lock in on the NFL with the reigning champion Browns as part of the backdrop (and the sports partially morbid history) is fantastic! Dave, you're the man again!

The thing noticeable about this is the Browns-49ers game was far from a sellout in a stadium that seated less than 60,000. Kezar Stadium still exists, it's capacity was reduced to 10,000 in 1990.

This is a great documentary. I think I've seen it maybe once before. I wonder how many Browns fans watching this when it aired that 1965 would be the last season the Browns could call themselves defending world champions.

Dave that was a great documentary, thanks for posting it. Definitely a lost treasure. I particularly liked the older gentleman scheming plays on index cards. Analytics 1965 style!

The reason we look back at this and think it was a better time is because it was. Discipline, team first mentality, self sacrifice, honor... Loved the drama and music of this production. Classic documentary!!

Friedkin - what a fascinating early picture of his. Not quite French Connection or To Live and Die in LA, but pretty good!

It's crazy that within 5 years of 1965 that the NFL would go from 14 Teams (6:56) to 26 teams.

This was when football was football compared to today's football, which has gotten soft. I understand about player safety, but the rule changes nowadays have become too excessive.

I know that I grew up watching this violent brand of football, but I'm glad to see that the routine of diving at the quarterback's knees, the "delivery sack", and tackling guys eight yards deep in the endzone after a touchdown has gone the way of the dodo. 🦤A great download. Thanks again. Dave!
