**When wouldn’t you want to spread spores as you walk?? Not to be alarmist, but some mushrooms are parasitic and can infect healthy, living trees. Out of an abundance of caution, it might be better NOT to spread spores of certain parasitic mushrooms as you walk through the forest - even though there is a low probability of causing harm. Check your favorite mushroom identification guide to learn which mushrooms might be parasitic.
