It's a lot of fun, and even since I started, it has grown a ton. If you do decide to play, I'll save you some money right here--the cheap Franklin or Amazon starter paddles will break very quickly and are cheap, I'd recommend a wooden paddle as your first paddle since they're cheaper and you'll have to use less force to get the ball over the net. Would love to have you in the sport...!

Those who have not tried to play this sport cannot the appreciate the finesse and strategy required to win at this game. It is a sport that is easy to learn, but hard to master. Some skills acquired from sports like tennis and ping pong transfer well, but are not quite enough alone to help you master this one. There is more complexity than is grasped from just watching without knowing the intricacies of the game.

I feel like people who comment it being slow and boring are those who don't play...Like me just a few weeks ago. Tried pickleball out and the game looks completely different when you're on the court. Now I understand There's a reason why you play "slow" at the net, because anything that goes above the knee is going to get you in trouble. You basically want to drop the balls as close to the opponent's knees when you're near the net and that requires finesse. A slight mistake and you're getting smacked. While I do agree pickleball isn't as easy as it seems, it certainly has a way lower ceiling compared to other racquet sports. We're so used to pros that perform extremely technical shots that these guys look like clowns. But why not? Pickleball isn't meant to be hard to play, and "going pro" just means you're good at the game and can earn a living, why not? The game looks stupid and it is, it's stupid fun. The pros aren't that far off to normal players compared to other sports, doesn't mean they aren't pros.

Why are so many tennis players so anti-pickleball? Is it because so many tennis courts that aren't being used have been replaced by pickleball courts? Generally at a high level of play, after the required bounce shots (serve and service return) the serving team will just drop the ball over the net to minimize offensive shots for their opponents and slow the ball down enough to give them time to get to the NVZ or kitchen line where they can be equal. serve (1), return (2) and drop (3rd shot).

A lot of pro players make money both from endorsements and hosting private lessons, those easily cover any tournament costs. If you make the podium in a tournament, you'll typically get a cash prize (only exception being "Winner-takes-all" competitions). So, if you really wanted to make Pickleball your passion, become a 5.0(+) player, play in tournaments and get your name out there, and then once you've gotten a reputation and/or possible endorsement, start hosting lessons in your spare-time. Like anything else, it requires commitment, and you have to really work in order to become a paid player. In-short, it depends on who you are in the sport of Pickleball.

To get technical on this specific rule, see 9B... a fault will be declared if, in the act of volleying the ball, a player or anything contacting the player touches the non-volley zone. 9.B.1. The act of volleying the ball includes the swing, the follow-through, and the momentum from the action. Ben swung, followed through, all momentum stopped, they won the point, he turned completely around and then dropped his paddle, which had nothing to do with "the act of volleying the ball".

Pickleball is relatively easy to get good at especially if you have any sort of racquet sport experience. But like anything there's a HUGE difference between being really good at something and being the best. You wouldnt stand a chance. When you said you would "dominate" I just laughed.
@robertvk18144 жыл бұрын
Most people coming from tennis or racquetball feel that their power and endurance would allow them to dominate in pickleball. Some of it does help, but there's a ton of finesse in pickleball, and that isn't gained overnight. Especially in doubles play, finesse and strategy are critical. It's pretty ridiculous for you to think that you could immediately be a top player without even playing it once. Sorry but that just isn't how the world works.
