This whole event was so badass. It's about a famous gladiator woman who is known throughout her country which holds yearly gladiatorial knight competitions. The competitions are what the entire country revolves around and bring in huge tourism and money. Margaret Nearl has won the competition several times and is known as "the radiant knight". Sometime before the game begins, she contracts an incurable disease known as oripathy. It's incurable and life threatening and so people who have it are HEAVILY ostracized and hated. However, due to her fame, Nearl is allowed to compete if she keeps her infection secret. She very reluctantly agrees. However, there is a infected league of the competition although it's mostly for show, and often times the infected participants are brutally killed and treated as expendable, and would never be allowed to actually win the competition. The best they can hope for is to earn a bit of money to keep from starving and dying in the infected slums. A series of event happens with the infected participants where Nearl witnesses corporate corruption and brutality resulting in the death of several infected participants. This prompts her to announce her infection publicly after she wins the final battle. Her opponent is a prior winner of the competition the "blood knight" who, like her, got infected later and is now just the pawn of the big corporate backers of the event. Nearl is ordered to kill him but she refuses and forfeits the match to him. The corporate backers are furious and try to kill both of them before they can leave, but are unsuccesful. Nearl later discloses her infected status, but the media twist her words to cover it up. Even though, on the surface, the status quo is still the same afterwards, her actions cause ripples throughout the country that may one day lead to change and a return to the true original chivalric roots of what the competition was supposed to always be. A fair and dignified competition between honorable Knights.

This is mildly on the right track, but definitely got a lot of the facts wrong.. Margaret Nearl only won once in the past and the controversy came about because she was hiding her infection at the time and once it was discovered she was forcefully exiled from the city and her title of "The Radiant Knight" was smeared in the eyes of the ruling powers that be in Kazimierz. And in regards to her infected status itself, she was never actually infected but was lied to at that time as a means to delegitimize her title and honor, and she believed it at first but eventually realized she wasn't showing any symptoms as she lived life in exile from her homeland. The reveal that she WASN'T infected at the end of the competition was actually the political machinations of the people in charge of the whole thing to begin with in an attempt to kill the infected people's support for her and try to sully her honor again, but she decided to stop fighting the nearly defeated Blood Knight and help him walk to the hall of fame together to share the title rather than decide on one winner.
