VSX user here: Incredible gear, especially after 4.0 update! It really works. The clarity and stereo imaging is no gimmick. I reached top 7.9% of users at soundgym, and top 0.92% at the panning exercise. So it is highly effective. Currently using Howie's Engineer as my main speakers. And what I enjoy doing most is listening through VSX to Tidal Music on Max quality.

Hey man, Never watched you before. I was a live sound guy for over 50 years. Had to stop a few years back just because I'm friggin' old. Any, I was really suprised at all the tuning you VARY on your headphones while mixing. I now have a studio and have been have some success. I have several sets of monitors (krk, nuemann, renkus-heinz, and of course the ns-10's. I work at home sometimes and use the 650's. I have found that if a mix sounds good on a plain old straight to the headphone buss without anything else, that it usually sounds good in my car, home system and then back at the studio. I don't get all the fidfeting around. If it is purely for comparitble reference of rooms, then maybe, but, I think marketing got ya. lol. Anyhow, I wish you all the luck in the world. Cheers

Hi, I just found your channel and I think I'm going to learn alot from you! So thank you! I've been trying for so long to find the right headphone for mixing, just to find out that there is no flat one... I don't want it to be flat only because it's better for mixing, but because I actually don't like all these creative FRs that I hear. So now I'm down to choosing between the HD600/HD650/HD6xx. Back when I tried them, I felt like the HD600 was flatter, though the treble did hurt my ear a little, but both needed EQ - in both the vocals got pushed back, which bothered me (it was more prominent on the HD650 though). Obviously you use the HD650, but I'm trying to understand - what makes one better than the other? How do I choose? Another question - in order to get used to them, I want to listen to them from my android too - is there a way to EQ my android exactly like the Realphone/Sonarworks EQ on the PC? And last - what close back HP would you recommend for mixing when I can't use the HD600/650? (and not VSX style, but regular). Thank you!!

One thing I notice is the upper midrange is is not as hard in Realphones because it is 75% compared to 100% in sonarworks. does turning ambience off mean you aren't using speaker emulations? I heard about the MM 500 Audeze... lots of good things. No emulation needed. When people pay a lot they alays think it is the best. I know SonciScoop chose MM500 and NDH 30's as their preference.

Can you make a video showing Can opener and Sienna settings. I have those two but I am lost on the settings.
@TheMixAcademy9 ай бұрын
Sienna Guru has the functionality of Can Opener built in. I wouldn't use both at the same time. For Sienna, it's about finding a room that you like the sound of and learning it well. Listen to a TON of music... Watch movies with it on... Lots of listening to get used to what the emulation is giving you. The Guru version comes with it so you should be able to launch that and experiment with the panning, depth, and binaural settings. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I mix hot when working kick and bass but most of the rest of the time it's average or even low in volume. I like it loud just like the next guy so I break this routine sometimes. I usually will mix the first song on an album in about a day, rest my ears, and finish on day 2 before turning that into a template and blasting through the rest of the project.

Why not mixing on headphones just instead of monitors. Why do you need a plugin like realphones (which I own by the way) for mixing with headphones?
@TheMixAcademy Жыл бұрын
Great question. You absolutely don’t “need it”. Andrew Scheps and many others mix with cans and don’t use any calibration. If you learn what your headphones are giving you and accommodate accordingly (lack of low end, false mids, etc.) then it’s certainly possible to mix with just cans and no additional tools. I love the help they provide in the calibration department so that’s most of why I use Realphones. It’s so easy to be fooled by the headphones’ natural curve. Thanks for watching!

Why if you have already processed headphones you need to use programs for correct you freq inside ur headpohnes
@TheMixAcademy Жыл бұрын
What are processed headphones?
@soundengineeringstudy Жыл бұрын
@@TheMixAcademy The engineers who made the headphones laid a certain frequency response in them, why fix it if, when these frequencies are corrected, the headphones will no longer sound as the engineers who made them intended. Many headphones are already analytical and do not need to be corrected, this will interfere with working in headphones
@TheMixAcademy Жыл бұрын
@@soundengineeringstudy As I mentioned in the video, let's say you have headphones like mine (Sennheiser HD 650's) and they have little to no low end information. When you go to mix the kick or bass you may boost a ton of low end because your headphones aren't producing it "accurately". Now, take that mix to the car and compare it to a professional mix and your low end is likely going to be distorting the speakers. If you don't hear things accurately you can't make good decisions. The opposite would be true if you had headphones where the engineers boosted the low end to enhance the bass response. You may think your kick or bass is fine because your headphones are making you think your kick or bass has plenty of low end when it's not the case. Those are just two examples but it varies from headphone to headphone. Even when companies have claimed to have created a flat response, it's never the case. There are resources online that allow you to see the frequency response chart for most headphone brands and models. Calibration software isn't a must but it's important to learn your headphones and know how to compensate for their deficiencies. Thanks again for watching!
@soundengineeringstudy Жыл бұрын
@@TheMixAcademy That's right, that's what I'm talking about. Even if you have headphones of the brand you are talking about, it will just be enough for you to get used to them and to their low frequencies, for this you can listen to references, because, as for me, programs that correct the frequency response destroy the idea of the engineers that they created. It's easiest to get used to your headphones and use references that can allow you to build the right balance.
