Remi, Jesse and Miranda are back on the line to help you improve your riding. This time they are tackling rock faces and how to build your skills with some basic techniques. Living in Squamish there is an abundance of rock slabs varying from beginner to literally the gnarliest feature you could think of. Quite often they witness some simple mistakes being made that can result in some scary looking situations! While this video might seem basic, the three points that Miranda, Remi and Jesse cover are the fundamental actions of any rock face, any size. Rock faces can be intimidating and they can also be high consequence, so it’s important to start at the bottom and build up. As a bonus, these same techniques can be used on any steep feature found on your local trails!

It's actually awesome that 3 professional riders take the time to do this just for the sake of helping others. Thank you very much, guys. If you find it interesting, Could you elaborate more about "pushing down through your feet". When I go through fast rocky sections, my feet come off the pedals all the time, specially my no-leading foot, no matter how much I drop my heels.

I personally experienced rock roll slide while slightly braking, realizing to release the brake , I save myself and the bike. Going forward I’ll practice the peak & push. In the past I typically stand tall to “peek” to see if something is rollable or dropable……

After just rolling down a vertical face I can report the technics described here were used. It was at least higher than my bike length and I didn’t want to fall off the face. Accelerated fast off the bottom and caught up with Shawn ( our ride leader) that showed me the drop in.

I love everything about your videos! Really glad that you share your experience in such an understandable way. Could you, fellas, do a video on how to setup "natural" corners high? Like the ones you race on raw trails in Europe.
@MGMAlternative
@MGMAlternative 3 жыл бұрын
We could do that! We are going to Europe early for the next block of racing and we can find some corners then to do that on.

Appreciated hearing some new ways of thinking about steeper rock features but two things: How about that "G-out" at the bottom when it's an abrupt transition ie. how to keep from looping out with correct body position? Also, can you do something like this but on steep, long, loose loam where the traction isn't so good? I know it's kind of advanced stuff but I honestly can't find any good content on that sort of thing. Thanks!

So I know you guys have covered cornering a bit, but wondering if you can cover a bit more about braking points, modulation and exit speed in detail. I've noticed that by working on my body position I can have more traction and carry more speed through corners, but there is a lot of times where I hit a tipping point in a corner depending on the sharpness/support that I have and end up dragging the brakes out of feeling like I'm going to go over the side. Especially unsupported or lightly supported turns. Maybe this is a bit more advanced or a video for down the road, but just giving some feedback. Good luck at the first EWS, appreciate you guys doing this!

I feel like we kind of covered that in our video of "Getting Critical" with Miranda. But we can do a more in depth cornering video.
