It is true that it's very easy to communicate in Malaysia. Each Malaysian knows at least 3 languages. For me, I know Iban, Bahasa Malaysia and obviously English.

Some user who commented on my last video mentioned I should check you out and your video got me hooked immediately! I went in July for 2 weeks on a holiday to Malaysia for my very first time and even flew to Miri to meet a friend of mine and shoot some videos with him together while he also shows me around his place. I have to admit that I enjoyed staying in Sarawak a lot, especially due to the incredible people and the fact that English goes very far there as it is an official language unlike elsewhere in the country. The laidback attitude of the people is definitely something I envy the people there the most. I would really like to move to Malaysia myself after I graduate from uni and find a job at some company in my field. It might be more difficult in Sarawak to find something, but I guess for tech I got the best chances in Penang or KL anyway. I can't wait to binge watch your other videos, you're awesome!

Great video. We are also thinking of moving to Malaysia, but schools are expensive and a permanent visa can be difficult as I am Norwegian and 67 years old and my wife is Filipino 28 years old plus our two school-age children 5 and 7 years old. I am not sure we meet all the requirements to get a permanent visa also so I just have to ask a lawyer in Malaysia to find out.

Yupp, Kuching's supermarket does not have vast varieties of International products like the ones in KL like Family Grocer, Ben's Independent Grocer or Jaya Grocer etc.Before I go back to Kuching, I'd buy lots of cheese( cheaper in KL, at bakery supplier) almond flour, maple syrup, stevia etc to bring back to Kuching.. ( Oh I think Ting & Ting Supermarket in Kuching used to have international products but not sure whether it's still around)

Nice video with good information! I'm curious how long it takes you to drive to the beach from your town, Kuching, given the road quality you describe. Also, can you swim at the beaches there or do you need to worry about jellyfish and crocodiles like northern Australia? Lastly, do restaurants in Malaysia expect tips like the USA or is it a no tipping culture like Australia and most of Europe? I'm asking all these questions because I'm thinking of living in Malaysia for a few years and still trying to decide between Kuching, KL, and Penang.
@aruyne2 жыл бұрын
1) Can't speak about the travel time from Kuching since I don't live in Kuching. 2) Malaysian beaches are usually safe from hazards. Definitely no Crocodiles. Jellyfish wise I have heard cases but they are fairly rare. Rivers in Sarawak are another matter though. Crocodiles are something to worry about. 3) Malaysia is a no tipping culture.

Hi Nick. Enjoy tour videos. I have a question about the Sarawak MM2 visa. I understand that it is necessary to spend time each year in Sarawak. It was 15 days per year and I believe that now it has been increased to 30 days per year. My question is, how are those required annual days verified? Is it on the honor system? Do you report to a government office each day? How is it done? Thanks.
@GlobalGibbon2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for watching my videos. I did read a news article that effective 1September anyone on the S-MM2H programme will have to spend 30 days per year in Sarawak. You can spend them however you want in Sarawak. They will check your viea stamps. So you could do 3x10 days, or 20+10, or 10 weekend trips of 3 days. 😉

PR status is only eligible for wives who married Sarawakian men. For husbands who married Sarawakian ladies, they can't get PR status. This includes husbands from west Malaysia.

@@GlobalGibbon they're distributed across some parts of borneo, the Malay peninsular, and Sumatra, but they're on the red list for extinction and no one seems to care enough to bring wider attention to them. I asked because I'm working on preserving and archiving information/media about them in the hopes I can spread awareness. They are strangely under-publicized even by conservation agencies and your input helps with my research, thanks :3

I have to Laugh, con, International products lol. Think about it where ever your home country is. Do your local supermarket cater for the taste of the world, NO. So nothing different.
@GlobalGibbon2 жыл бұрын
I'd have to slightly disagree here. There are huge Asian Food sections in Dutch supermarkets. Perhaps they don't offer all international products, but sure a lot of variety.
@akongjuingchannel74712 жыл бұрын
Maybe it has got to do with the size and variety of population at the place you are living in, where quantity of demand is the most important factor. Of course you cannot simply sell just everything without sizable demand..That is why KL and Kuching are different..it is the size and the variety of its population and obviously there are many foreigners in KL to create sizable demand of almost anything of other parts of the world.

Hey Nick, Great video! I'm able to get an international driver's license shipped here. Is it true that I can switch it over to a Malaysian driver's license? Also, how hard is it to get a motorcycle license and which school did you go to? Hopefully, it was in Kuching and survived covid.
@GlobalGibbon2 жыл бұрын
Hey Christine! Changing your license shouldn't be too difficult. My friend just changed his UK one to a Malaysian one. Going for classes here is pretty easy, just sign up with a driving school. You have to do 2 Saturdays of theory classes, then some lessons on the track and within a month+ you can get it. I got mine in Miri when I was living there in 2017.
