You've officially made the like before watching list. I think the most useful thing for me was seeing you struggling on individual moves at the start on something you planned to do in a single session. I often find that if I can't do individual moves on a problem I'll quickly write it off as a multi-day project, when in reality it often just needs a few micro changes and a few recruitment goes to get the feel for it. Keep it up.
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
Haha rad! Thanks!! It’s so easy to underestimate how much you can learn/get better on a route in a really short amount of time. Really psyched you got that out of the vid 😀. Have fun going through that process next time you’re out ✌️

"Taking it slow is often a quicker way to get to the end" Is probably the best bouldering advice Ive heard in months. I always hop on the problem and start trying to send it really hard the SECOND I can do all the moves, not even considering dialing it better, especially because Im feeling the constraint of my energy, and I know I only have a few good tries before I cant send it whatsoever. Maybe If I spent the energy I spend on trying to send off the getgo to dial the individual moves and linkes together, I could send sooner. Definetely will apply it to my longstanding 3 month project. I will try to get back to you if your method worked.
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
Ahhh that’s awesome the message resonates. I’ve totally been in your shoes, do the individual moves, now send tries, burn skin and energy on bad beta, repeat haha. Have fun trying this on the project!

Ripper of a little video! Always lovely to hear the perspective and thought process behind the climb. The more I progress with this sport the more I realise it's as much a mental one as physical
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
Yep, you're so right there. I'd argue its just about 50/50 mental/physical. Neither can work without the other. Symbiotic relationship

Nice Tom. If you ever need a couple more pads when you're down the hill, particularly north side, just yell (we've met a few times at comps, but don't worry if I'm just some rando in your memory). Enjoy reading to Audrey.

For sure. Most of the time I'm so last minute with my decisions for heading down there. This trip was planned out 840am and I was in the car driving down the hill 25 minutes later haha.

Tom what's your warmup look like for more volumey outdoor sessions? Also curious about what your nutrition plan is when you're outside, staying hydrated and fueled and all
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
For a volume session, i'll do a similar first half of what you see here (easy climbing, a few pull throughs etc) then just get into the climbing. Start easy and gradually try harder boulders. Nothing too crazy :). Good skin management is useful as well. Taping up, brush holds etc. Would love to dig into the diet stuff at one point for sure.

That was great Tom! Thanks for sharing your process. Knowing whether I'm warming up 'properly' or enough is something I always struggle a little with. On a previous video about training sessions there was brief footage of you lifting an olympic bar (perhaps a deadlift). Wondering if you might ever do a video on how you train the lower half of your body to help with keeping tension on steeper terrain? Beyond just climbing I'd like to know what exercises or training you reckon helps most with building strength through your posterior chain for climbing. Thanks for the great content!

90 minutes to send Deep Blue Sea after 5 days on. Far out. Nice one. I thought the consensus was V12/13, you reckon it's easier?
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not 13 in the 13 mark. I think somewhere in that 12 range is close enough, maybe easier? I don't know. Its a fun little piece of climbing in a super location :)

Great send, it's a nice spot and is good when a breeze is blowing in across the water.... your EOS R overheated?
@TomOHalloranAus2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think so, but maybe something else? The footage just cut out mid send. I didn't notice. I turned the camera off after topping out and bought it into the cave. I then filmed on it soon after and it worked fine. It was warm and sunny and not breezy out on the rock. I actually had a thought of, 'maybe i should bring the camera into the shade, it seems hot out there.'
