It makes me feel old that these guys had never seen one of these cars before. I took my Drivers Test in a 68 Type 3 in 1971. It was an automatic version, same colour as this one, and it stalled twice during the test but I still managed to pass. This build looks awesome and I really appreciate the body style being kept alive.

I know what you mean. Drove a 68 Type 3 in high school in the 80s. Same Brick Red color as this one. But not surprised these guys have never seen them before. Type 3s fell apart just looking at 'em. By the 90s there really weren't any left on the road.

This video just popped up on my feed. What is funny about this video is, for over 20 years I talked about putting a turbo charged engine in the front of a square back. But I never pulled the trigger on it. Instead, I bought an N/A 2JZ engine, added a turbo to it. And put that into my 74 Datsun 260Z. 😎😎😎

My first car was a Type 3 fastback. I used to dream about doing this in high school! Instead of learning French I was doodling what I thought the chassis should look like so I could install a big block Chevy. Of course the only modification I could afford was headers and coil over shocks in the rear, which didn't help handling at all.

Saw a similar year flat back for sale on Hwy - 8, across from the " Brick " in K. W. The car lot was displaying it outside? It looked NEW, a fresh build? It was a cream colour. Show worthy! Pretty rare wagon. Love the look that your going for. A great sleeper? It will make big noise right away! I don't mean the exhaust note. A bolt on cowl is a great option ! Good luck, can't wait to see and hear this little beast take flight ! Thanks guys! ✌🏻👍🏻🤘🇨🇦, 🍁 Ontario.

What the hell. This dude is insane and a master craftsman. Some advise. If you look at traditional VW square back race cars the front end usually flips up as one piece with fenders attached. So that might solve your clearance and access issues. It would flip forward. Then again those are fiberglass bodies. Also you could go higher in the rear for ride height since the rear tires are so huge. Since it’s a hot rod a rake look is cool. Also it would just be a body raise not the actual suspension.
