I have a TR-3 X1 SW. It's one of only two autos I have (the other is just a Boker Ak74). I've always maintained that the TR-3 is as close to perfect as you can get to a pocket knife, auto or manual. The only way to make it better is to use a better blade steel however, I find nothing wrong with the 154CM blade. Aesthetics, ergonomics, action, durability, materials, blade grind. They're all there.

I own this exact knife and to me it is the perfect knife. I’ve owned it for about 2-3 years and I literally carry it everyday and use it for just about everything and it has NEVER failed me. I have compared a lot of other non-ProTech side opening autos and I have yet to find anything that compares to it. It fires hard, stays sharp, absolutely zero blade play(that’s the first thing I look at when buying a knife) and fits in the hand perfectly. If I would ever change something about the knife it would be the blade steel. 154cm is good, but there are a lot of better blade steels out there, but the TR3 is still perfect in my eyes.

I know what you mean, Pro-Tech really struck gold with this design. It is right in every way, I especially like how much blade they get in the relatively compact handle. I also like the fish scale milling you can sometimes find on it. I would even say keep the 154cm, its still one of my very favorite blade steels.
@randomguyfromtexas11854 жыл бұрын
TheKnifeJunkie Absolutely, the blade to handle ratio is perfect and nothing against the 154CM blade steel, I do like it, but I’d be willing to pony up a few more dollars for S30V or S35VN. Either way I still love mine and as soon as I can get my hands on the fish scale handled version and the Desert Warrior edition I’m going to be all over them like a fat kid on a cupcake!!!

@@randomguyfromtexas1185 I've got to agree with the Knife Junkie, I prefer 154CM to the S--V steels. the super steels I have (small Sebenza 21 S35VN, Manix 2 S110V) "might" hold an edge slightly longer than 154CM but they lose that scary sharp edge fairly early on and once they get to the point of needing to be resharpened, they can be a pain to go through the entire process (beginning with diamond stones and then through my normal progression). I still carry an old Benchmade 750 Pinnacle (think large Sebenza) in ATS-34 as a heavy duty work knife when I'm working outside. ATS-34 and 154CM hold their edges more than sufficiently enough for me and I can rehone them easily enough when needed. I would like to see Pro-Tech offer the newer CPM-154 though, I'm really cuurious to see if it offers anything substantial over 154-CM. I'm currently trying to decide between grabbing a TR3 or waiting to find a Strider-Protect SNG. It's driving me nuts.

Does the plunge lock contact much of the blade in the locked out position? I hear that as being a weak point of the knife, where it barely contacts much of the blade.
@TheKnifeJunkie4 жыл бұрын
It hasn't presented a problem to me so far. I think it may be because though the lock is not plunged deeply into the cutout in the blade, is is making contact around the entirety of the cutout. I'm no engineer, but I think that added surface area I think does the trick.
@jimt20114 жыл бұрын
TheKnifeJunkie I haven’t heard one failing, so it must be enough contact to get the job done.

Nice! I have the tr-4 with feathered aluminum scales. Protech does autos right!

I cannot disagree! I'm no auto aficionado, but I do know it's snappier and more solid feeling than my also amazing Benchmade AFO2.

Привет, подскажи пожалуйста, у меня нож точно такой же, но я заметил что не всегда автомат работает чётко, т.е. при открывании лезвие ударяется о стопорный шпенёк и отскакивает т.е. лезвие не фиксируется, у тебя так же?

That looks a lot like the Micro-tech LUDT. Do you know which came first?
@TheKnifeJunkie5 жыл бұрын
I'm unsure about which one came first, but I see what you mean about the fluting in the handle, which incidentally, really aids in gripping it.
@Crusty_Otter2 жыл бұрын
@@TheKnifeJunkie I had a Benchmade 9050 AFO several years ago with the same fluted AL handle, I didn't care much for it and eventually traded it off. AL handles in general aren't my thing, they seem to get uncomfortably cold quickly in cold weather - I've never had that problem with my Ti scaled knives (no idea why that is though). That being said, I'm pretty sure my next purchase will either be a TR-3 (preferably in an unfluted handle) or Pro-Tech's SNG.

Hello, I'm looking for someone who would send me protech knives to Germany of course not for free

Assuming you've tried the US retailers (BladeHQ, KnifeCenter, DLT, etc.) I think your best bet is to hook up with a seller on the secondary market like BladeForums or U.S.N.
@jalladebisar4 жыл бұрын
Hey man. Official retailers won't do that as it puts them in a big legal liability. However, I have done this process before and I can ship it as a whole or disassembled for you. Let me know if you're interested mate :)

There a quite a few shops in Germany, Austria and Slovakia that do sell genuine Pro Tech Knives. Viennacutlery, TopBlade, ToolsforGents etc...
