A nice short video without all the theory. You've simplified this to make it easy for people to begin to get a feeling for the Tai Chi way of doing things, as opposed to using brute force. It's always best to keep it soft and light, which can seem very counter-intuitive when talking about applications. The practice of training methods in pushing hands comes from understanding how ward off works, however I've come across many ways of interpreting this. My teachers emphasise sticking to the fundamental principles, no matter what type of training we do. The ward off (or Peng energy) is one of the 4 basic aspects to beginning partner exercise through pushing hands practice. Applications can then develop from those practices. My Tai Chi journey started in 1985, and I'm still discovering about these things each time I practise with a partner. In the last 5 years I've been taught new ways to feel and do these things, which are opening up a whole new world to explore within Tai Chi.

Thanks @markdonovan1540! Glad you liked the video, and thanks for commenting! Good to hear you like the level of detail and length. Sounds like you've had a lot of training for a long time. It's good to hear the partner practice has opened up for you in the last years allowing you to keep deeply exploring the art!

4:16 to me, that feels like "Absorb." 4:18,, but to be Taijiquan, I am thinking, that I would not drop the hip-"in Accepting",, I would rather lean in! With th mass of my body astable stance support the waist move but not the hips.-Ernie Moore Jr. So, I would rather "Lean-in" from my core to effect a deflect of that portion of Ward-Off.-Ernie Moore Jr.

Great intro to Peng. 5 yrs in Taiwan is a great start. One thing: Peng is not "the movement". There is little historic justification of this label. It has also been called Press. It is one part of "Grasp Sparrows Tail". Peng is one of the "8 Essentials" (Jin), and not only, but "THE primary Jin". So what is Peng? As explained in the video, it is the skill of first contact, and also of creating or maintaining space and one way to neutralize an attack. From "Stick-Adhere/Join Follow", Yang ChengFu assigned Peng to "Stick" [Touch]. The 8 Essentials are not movements or techniques. They are skills and qualities that can be manifest in infinite techniques.
