Good stuff Bolo - 65yo retired enginineer and educator here. I know this: I am not in the Unc zone but now in the Gramps zone :) But, when I had my studio I was in my 30's .... and then educating at Uni I went from late 30's to 60 (eek!) So much to learn from younger artists! That's the way to go - so it becomes a *two way street* of knowledge :) My vibe is probably way more contemporary at 65 (just making music for fun) than most of my similar aged peers. I have been blessed by music and the people I have met through the ages; music breaking the generational gap. Establishing mutual respect is the way to go. Sometimes a young green wine can be complimented by a mature cheese.

I'm actually closing in on 6-0, but just got into an audio engineering program while learning music production. I know that working with young ones won't be a matter of if, but when. I'd love to see a video from that perspective, but as it is this one is gold in term of knowledge, and to go in with a bit of humility and a willingness to let people and the process be. The creative process is definitely its own thing. I'm sure to watch this video again; thank you!

Unc (44) is the title I embrace when I am in the studio with these younger artists I am just me an the energy I carry the younger artists I just get it with them cause I have nieces an nephews all in the18-30 range and it makes them comfortable and inquisitive as to how I keep going with how much it has changed and respect what I think because they see that I have knowledge that they could never experience.. Blessed to be alive to see this rebirth of music

This might be the most insightful video I have seen yet. As some who turned 50 earlier this year, Its nice to hear about how to be a teacher in the studio so concisely. Its a delicate balancing act to be sure, to impart your own life experience while simultaneously not stifling a younger artist''s creativity.

12:30 the off beat part!! yea i record alot of artist who like to rap off beat...this why any new artist i ask alot of questions to see what they want and looking for. then i build around that on the best way to get it out.
@lg_414 Жыл бұрын
I think its a default as a artist, engineer or producer. You automatically go to what you know but when you start running a public recording studio the clients interest is always first. So no matter if its a off beat flow, EQing the bass to the stratosphere or making the mix very thin there is always a method to the madness. I always ask them to play a reference track, so you can get a better understanding of what their on.

On the other hand, when being the younger person in the room (not a music studio), I listen, and think OK they must know something, but sometimes the older generations have a lot of obsolete knowledge that as brilliant as it might sound has no place anymore, and there is no way to explain them that. Can you make a video how to deal with stubborn old people who did not watch this video? I hope I will be able to grow old with an open mind, so I don't get grumpy and sad as people with closed minds.

@@BoloDaProducer that happens in studio sessions with teens. Even Jermain Dupree talks about kids rapping about gang life, sex and drugs that they don’t live.
