I’m turning 49 in December and I’ve released 8 instrumental albums in the past 18 months. Music is my therapy and I’m creating the best music I’ve ever made in my life. As long as you feel inspired to create go for it. The last thing you want to do is end of regretting not following your heart if you desire to create music. Also, you never know who you might be inspiring by pursuing your passion.

I'm turnin 49 in June salute. You get two chances at this thing one when your living at home and trying to figure things out and two after your kids are almost grown and your stable enough to get a little time to work on music again. Somewhere in between life happens and your equipment is hard to keep if your bills are due and you have to make choices. Seems like music is always first on the chopping block. My thing is why is this the only genre where we even have this conversation? In other genres they celebrate their og's and Pending on how you send your music out lets say you do sync licencing or go through a company like taxi . No one will see you anyway so your music speaks for itself. I agree with your commment on propeller head reasons that was me. Reason is hard though true you have to tweak alot of stuff to get the most out of it , some cats don't understand how to work it so they shit on it . but I do not agree with what you said about the Korg Triton because the Triton converters sound better then most stuff out here today still. Triton is still poppin they even made a triton plugin the only replica of a synth i know about coming from the manufacturer that people demanded. Think about that. I have had 5 tritons over the years and i would shamelessly buy another one any day if one popped up on marketplace. A Triton and a mpc 2000xl combo right now is still a respectable combo www.korg.com/us/products/software/kc_triton/

@@HoodHandyman I agree Bruh and you just summed up my situation to a T. Started doing music in my teens in Louisiana. Moved to LA at 20 to pursue the dream and it took longer than I thought it would. I got married and started my family and when things got tight I had to sell my equipment. I had an MPC2000XL, Korg TR rack, along with a few guitars but had to put music on the back burner to take care of the family. After our 2nd son was born we decided to move to AZ to get away from the gang violence (lived in Inglewood) and that led to me not making any music for about 12 years. It was the hardest 12 years of my life because I live music so much. I thought I might never to get opportunity to create again and just gave it over to God. I knew that if it was His will, He would open the door again. Then in 2019 I went back to school to get my AA in Music Business. It was extremely hard because after my first semester the pandemic hit. I was working full-time, going to school full-time and taking care of a wife and 3 kids. I used my financial aid to buy studio equipment, graduated with a 3.85 GPA in 2021 and have been consistently making music since then. God showed me so many things during my time away from music, but more importantly I drew closer to Him and found purpose in creating. Everyone’s journey is different, but everyone has a testimony. Glad to hear your still getting at it as well. Peace and blessings fam!!!

Ive been on quite a few albums in my area through the years and have a few singles and videos coming out soon. Onething that i realized there is always an audience for our sound some people seem to forget about the art you will never here other groups of people picking and choosing whats to old just us or our people.

I turned 47 today. You can make music as long as you’re capable of doing it and still love it. This conversation only comes up in rap circles. As much as I love hip hop I approach music from the perspective of making other genres of music. You’re never too old to funk out, rock out, sing blues or play jazz, etc. But the prevailing mindset is that in hip hop you have to be young. Which ain’t true, but I don’t need hip hop to be a musician.

I think that most people sometimes confuse pop stars, being famous, and music celebrities with artists such as producers. Artists don’t have age limits in creating art and making a living out of it. It’s the ones who want to be famous, the celebrities or pop stars that has age limits for their marketing stuff.

Brother, always wanna say much respect for what you do and how you get down! As a DJ, this conversation comes up a lot and I'll tell you, HELL NO WE AIN'T TOO OLD!! 😀M 60, but I didn't start making beats until I was 39 years old. However, this year in 2023, I celebrate 41 years as a DJ, so my years as a DJ are very special and cherished to me. Truth be told, I dont get down and make beats like I used to but my DJ game is still strong! I still mix at least once a week, I still DJ for family and friends, and I have my own successful podcast show where I share and dj music. So just like you said - you're NOT TOO OLD to do what you love. Keep doing it no matter what! Truss and believe -always put God first and He'll make a way! 🙏🏿👏🏿💯

Fam great content, making music started as a hobby for me back in 83 and now here we are in 2023 and I'm retired and making music and having a ball. I even have a few young catz that come thru and we collab on a few things. But all in all, as long as you have that creative streak and know your gear, I say keep making beats. 💯

Exactly. I’m 57 and they tell me I’m making banger beats. That’s all it matters. Besides the fact that I love what I’m doing.

I love and hate this topic at the same time. I was introduced to producing at a late age according to the norm (26 years old) I didn't get better at producing and knew it was something I wanted to continue to do until I was around 35 (I'm 41 now as of June this year). I've NEVER looked at music as something to where I had to either "rush" or hurry and beat an imaginary age clock to "make it" in production. I'm not concerned with that, I'm only concerned with where I take my music from where ever I am in life as time progress and doing my personal best to keep up with music I enjoy making. I'm ot in this to work the grind of getting in the studios with artist like the traditional producers are. I'm in it simply because I've enjoyed making music, beats, instrumentals. I consider myself more of a instrumentalist than anything. Now as of today I do have 3 artist I've been working with for the last 3 years but I just mostly create instrumentals for them and some I give away to them some they buy from me and I'm good with that. However, it doesn't mean that I wont turn away an opportunity to work with new potential artist or collab with other producers if the moment comes. I'm currently trying to just stack a catalog of music I can have so that I can be prepared more so for when sync licensing opportunities come.

Bolooo! lol. Thanks for this.. Im 44 myself and turning out the best work I ever have.. Agree 100%, life is too damn short to worry about sh*t like this. I think one of the great things about producing elelctronic music (or hip hop) stuff vs. say, the 'being a rockstar' of yesteryear, is that it is largely ageless, or at least that age is a state of mind. Its not like you're gonna wake up one day and not be able to hit the high notes. Hey, the first wave of techno djs is in their 70s. And theyre still globe trotting and ripping up club nights around the world.. think bout that next time youre feeling old and then slap some sense into yourself and make some music :)

I think this age cap and especially in hip hop is how the industry gets you in and out before you start coming to your senses.

It’s never been a thing of being too old to make music. Most who do it at Unc status have more knowledge than most newbies. If you love music, keep studying the new while maintaining what you already know! That makes you a beast! 👍🏽

Thanks for this. Many of use it for therapy because amusing ourselves and learning new things is what keeps us young. Also there is not right or wrong since their are niches for so many sounds and experiences.

I started DJ at 13 and producing at 19. I’m 43 going on 44 in several months. Do I plan on stopping ? Nope ! It’s my hobby and passion. And because I’ve done it for so long. I teach music now. Pop culture likes to place time stamps on things like music. But music is ageless.

This is not the first one of these PSAs you've made on the subject, either. And of course never too old is still the right answer. Skill, skill, skill. lol thank you for saying ladies and not 'females' :D and LMAO my band's singer has a Triton in the rehearsal space, I think. I know it's an old silver Korg. hah uncette. nice.

I always thought that being a musician, producer, writer, or just an artist in general isn't like being an athlete, for example. The body breaks down much faster than the mind. Take care of both of course, but it'd be wise to invest & continuously develop one's mind for the long haul.
