Very detailed video, there's so many different opinions and so many customers complaining about all the brands, my son's driveway has 6 x 6 wood he wants out, 15 foot long driveway, I was thinking of laying stone down maybe 2 inches 3 inches and then building off that, Just turning into September in Pennsylvania so the weather still decent, would appreciate advice, thank you

Unfortunately, Cold Patch asphalt is really only intended as a PATCH - no larger than 4' - 6' square. For the size of a job you're describing, it's going to be a hot pour. You could also always switch it up and go concrete!

Can you sprinkle cement powder on top to speed up curing and hardening? It was a helpful video.
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Hm, couldn't make a firm recommendation on that one. However, since this isn't a cementitious product, not sure that the cement would really have any effect...especially if not hydrated. We'd stick with the product as designed! Biggest takeaway is to tamp the heck out of the mix.

I’m guessing you could use sand

Can this be done in the winter (above freezing) when the lot is wet?
@SakreteOfficial11 ай бұрын
Absolutely - there's not much of a chemical reaction going on with this stuff, it's not nearly as sensitive to cold or water.
@astalavistababy-g5o Жыл бұрын
Can this be used to cover a section of the asphalt driveway having crack lines ? It's too much work to cover each line individually. I just want to cover all of the lines which includes part of the solid section - even if it means raising the level a bit.
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Cold patch asphalt really isn't designed for crack filling - it's a "bulk repair" product. However, there are several asphalt crack repair products (generally black-tinted, latex based products in a squeeze bottle or caulk tube). There's also always the overlayment coating option if you really want to go all the way!

Recommend giving it 28 days to ensure the cold patch achieves a full cure before you top-coat.

No good advice from this end...that large of a repair project is definitely pro-sized. Unless you want to pour some concrete instead?

Do you need to pack stone dust before you use the cold patch material?
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Actually, you want to get as much sand, dirt and debris out of the pothole before you apply the cold patch. Anything left at the bottom just hurts adhesion!
@chrisw3421 Жыл бұрын
What is a minimum thickness before it loses the ability to bind and stay together? I have spots less than 1 inch thick that need filling.
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
The minimum rating is 1" deep - you might consider chiseling your pothole out just a touch more to use this product successfully. Otherwise, a fluid patching product from another manufacturer might be your best move.
@chrisw3421 Жыл бұрын
@SakreteOfficial I appreciate the reply. Unfortunately it's not a hole with edges all around, it's the apron of my driveway and I have to tapper down from ~ half an inch to zero... and I think most of these patch products rely on an edge of some kind to hold the patch in place.
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Correct - cold patches really do need an "edge" to lock it in place.
@tonymanero55442 ай бұрын
@@chrisw3421don’t you have the driveway as 1 edge, and concrete sidewalk as the parallel edge. If you soil, then you can try a patch with water activated glue that can lock to your driveway. If you have a rock or hard foundation, I would apply liquid concrete adhesive to the base with a chip brush, and apply 2” tamp to 1”, and keep layering (called lifts).
@steveriley263 Жыл бұрын
If there is water puddling in the pothole, do you have to remove it? Or can you just add the sakrete in like other products?
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
It'd be best to remove the water, but it's not mandatory to have it 100% dry. That said, any water trapped under the surface is likely to cause more spalling...so we'd suggest drying it out as best as possible! You know what they say...proper preparation prevents poor performance!

Does this product continue to dry out and harden over time?… How much time is needed for full cure?
@SakreteOfficial6 ай бұрын
The strength curve really comes from compaction, not "cure" like concrete does. There will be incremental hardening as the material dries out, but you're pretty much ready to rock as soon as you tamp it. Hopefully the biggest takeaway here is that you've got to compact any cold patch WAY more than you might think!
@stevesiefken6432 Жыл бұрын
How long does it take to dry? I’m worried about it sticking to the tires and shoes? How big of a problem is that?
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Tracking can be an issue in hot weather for sure. The Pro Tip is to sprinkle a bit of sand over the surface to absorb any excess oil!
@livingaboard Жыл бұрын
Could also use a hammer to compact base layer
@SakreteOfficial Жыл бұрын
Certainly could - the 4x4 or tamper just works a bit better because of the larger surface area. Tough to compact evenly with a hammer!

You keep saying VOC but your not explaining what it means🤔🤔🤔
@SakreteOfficial9 ай бұрын
Good callout! VOCs are "volatile organic compounds" - essentially gasses that are emitted from certain solids or liquids that can have harmful health effects. Think about the smell from a can of oil-based paint vs. latex-based paint...the oil has far more VOCs, and therefore a stronger smell!
