Pro Tools Physical RAM Is Running Low Fix!

Thank you so much!! I did exactly what you said and my memory went down to 97% and then I noticed my disk playback cache size was on 12G and yours was on normal so I switched it to normal and my memory went down to 22%. Not sure if this is the right way to fix it but we’ll see. Thanks again.

Good idea .. I actully are running in to that problem now.. I use Pro Tool 12.5 anda have 2TB SSD Hard Drive with 24 GB of RAM .. and still getting that mensage somotime... I will try this definatelly.

The fix for me was doing exactly what it told me to do. Turns out I only had 4G of RAM installed in my Mac and adding a VST was too much for it. I'm surprised I didn't fry the damn thing. Luckily it's an old 2010 27" iMac and I was able to install another 16GB without having to buy a whole new computer lol. Anyway, if this doesn't fix your problem, you might want to check how much RAM your computer actually has to work with. With Pro Tools/ VSTs/ plugins, you should be running on at least 16GB (Which is something I just learned lol)

Sadly I still need to use the video part but after making sure the buffer size was at the max my problem seemed to disappear so thanks.

Ive always wanted to know, how much disc playback cache size exactly is "NORMAL" anyway?? Cause it drops the memory from 100% down to zero on my rig. Hmmm

So what do I do when I need my video? I'm editing SFX and Protools in trying to index my SFX library. I keep getting a low RAM warning even though the activity memory is only at 5%. I'm using a Mac Studio with an M1 chip and 32 GB of RAM, Pro Tools Ultimate 2021.10.

What other ways can U get rid of more memory. I literally just deleted everything off my Laptop and started fresh and after doing what you’ve told in this video I’m still only at 79% just weird. I barely have projects I’ve been worked on Protools. Like 6-7 files. Please help thank you

I use the VIDEO ON PRO TOOLS 12 as I score to picture . I presently have 16 gig in a Mac Pro 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5. I use Kontakt and other orchestral Libraries . The memory still reads 100 % utilizing your suggestions until I de-select VIDEO which I use and then It drops a little bit. Do you think I need tor breakdown and increase memory in Mac Pro ?

Thanks for your comment. It sounds likely that you might need to increase the RAM, as working to picture can take up a lot of memory with all the VSTs running. BUT I can't give specific advice because I don't know the exact ins and outs of your system and your exact situation. Keep digging, researching and you'll find the answers and system that works best for your needs. I hope that helps and thanks again for your comment!

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. Thanks for including your computer specs. If your plugins are bypassed, they still use memory. They have to be totally inactive (Ctrl + CMD + click) to free up resources. If you haven't tried that, give it a go. If you have, then I'm not sure why you're still stuck at 95%.

@@UnderstandingAudio yeah Input them all inactive trying to single out one offender but it doesnt seem to be the case. Even ozone on my master is only using around 4%...the others dont have an effect on the memory meter
